Cellulose thinners is effective, acetone based Nail varnish remover works too but not quite as quickly that’s what I found anyway.

i think I concluded no 4 thinners was good old fashioned cellulose thinners...

Rylard don't give any material safety data sheets (msds) on the web site like most suppliers so can't  tell what No 4 is. It does say any paint stripper though.

No 4 is this:

That's Jotun's no 4 thinner. Is it the same stuff. Different supplier. That is isopropyl alcohol. Acetone likely a better stripper or nitromors. IPA is quite tame.

There appear to be loads of ‘Thinners No 4’ and they all appear to be much the same although some seem to contain xylene (great stuff for cleaning video heads in VTRs)

Each manufacturer is likely to have their own thinners. the first one you linked to was Sherwin Williams - a big name in paint 30 years ago. Theirs was isopropanol as well. THe second link is bostik but they dont say what is in the thinner. Xlyene is a very good cleaner but not too good for skin contact - isopropanol is tame in comparison.
