My 2008 Barrus Shire 50 has no glow plugs starts instant and provides great fuel consumption DIs are up to 20% more economical than IDIs, that why all modern diesel cars are DIs.

Thanks Chew - That might be the best option. For those of you concerned re the Glow plugs . As mentioned by others this particular Barrus doesn't  require pre heating of glow plugs. The fact there is a warning lamp and the problem re the alternator light would suggest that this is the wrong panel for the engine spec, hence, as I've now learnt, some modifications needed. However I am pretty sure that this was the only option available with regardes repalcment option on my original 10 year old panel. Thanks again for all your help and interest.

and your new panel even has space for an oil pressure gauge if you should ever fancy fitting one.  Though having gone 10 years without, I don't suppose you do.
