Where’s the water

Featured Posts

Had a walk round Boddington reservoir yesterday. Lowest I’ve ever seen it even an island in the middle. Expect all reservoirs are much the same will need a very wet winter to fill them up.

According to this some very low levels.

Perhaps Pownall's idea of a new Grand Contour Canal to supply the dry south east from the wet north west wasn't a bad suggestion.

Continental style barges for freight, lessening motorway traffic, an effective water distribution network, what's not to like?

It's easing of now but the school run was fun. Driving rain. We were soaked on our ten minute walk.

Walked around Edgbaston (aka Rotten Park) Reservoir on Monday and it was looking very low but I believe that this is connected with the current problems at Chasewater.

if it's built to suitable dimensions.... why not?

there's some lovely boats (or are they ships?) that are just too big (100m long and 6m wide) for normal uk waterways but on a suitably sized waterway would be brilliant.

One of those would make four homes, let's embrace more canals and boats along with  its infrastructure, bring it on.

A good idea. A shame we were the only countries in the world daft enough to build seven feet wide locks across many parts of the country thus meaning we all now have to buy silly little boats if we want to use most of the system without resorting to road transport :(

And latest from CRT:

Due to a pump breakdown we are needing to manage water resources, a navigation restriction will be in place along the Marsworth flight between lock 39 to Lock 45.

The navigation will be open from 9am to 4pm, with last entry into flight 2:30pm.

The temporary pumping system planned for installation at Tringford is expected to be operational before the New Year.

Reservoir levels remain low and the refill has been minimal due to lack of rain.

The current restrictions are to remain unchanged at this time

Updates to be provided as work progresses on temporary pumping installation and the reservoirs refilling.

Towpath will remain open

You can view this notice and its map online here:

If the valve hasn't been operable for several years, you have to admit why it wasn't attended to when the reservoir was drained down and considerable work carried out a few years ago.

This bit doesn't make sense:

Quote

The valve that is now closed is intended to be used only for the emergency drawdown of the water from Chasewater

.

So that implies its not the regular flow valve.....
