We bought a couple of bags of Oxbow Red, which is their non-smokeless brand, from NB Alton when we were on the Macc and it's brilliant. I've just found the remains of it at the bottom of the coal bunker and the lack of ash and length of burn are both really good. I wish I could find somewhere around Braunston to buy it, we're using cosy-coke from Fred Tarry at the moment and judging from the volume and colour of the ash, it's about 50% brick-dust.

Ah, only just seen this post. If you like Oxbow Red, you may want to try Winterblaze. I believe if it isn't the same, it's near identical.

I would recommend anthracite, we used to get 3/4 of a ton delivered and it did us for all winter with a Torgem stove linked to a central heating setup on our 55 foot narrowboat ‘ATON’

the thing about anthracite is it keeps in and there is very little ash.

downside is it is more expensive

Which was it a ton, or 3/4 a ton? :)

Must be nice to have somewhere to put 3/4 ton of coal!

SO.... who sells it in bags then?

(And delivers it to Wiltshire!)

The mooring we had came with space for a garden and parking and coal.

It wasn’t bagged, we put a tarp over it.

Sssh! You are spoiling the fun with sensible facts!

Oi smart Alec, I'm the one who does the clever-dick LMGTFY links!

Anyway I've tried all of them. They all refuse to deliver to my mooring 1/4 mile from the nearest road, across a style, three gates, two kissing gates, a railway line and one small bridge.

Geighlords the lot of them. huh.

Can't you move the boat to somewhere convenient in your copious free time? Running the engine might help with the 'lectric too :P
