The Environment Agency has issued an “emergency navigation closure notice” for the section of the river between Bottisham and Upware to eradicate floating pennywort.

In order to facilitate floating pennywort removal and minimise the further spread and colonisation of this highly non-native species it is necessary to deploy a boom below the area of works on the River Cam to capture plant fragments released by the mechanical removal process.

Closure will be in place from 8am to 3.30pm on weekdays, and that river users will be unable to pass within these hours.
