Looking at the map with those mounds and isolated buildings does look like gun powder/ munitions. I have found an earlier map and the arm went, moat like, around a piece of land marked as "powder magazines".

If you follow the river Crane (known as Bull's Brook there, but also as Yeading Brook for part of its course) down to Feltham there is still a (disused!!) powder mill on what is now known as Crane Park (by Powder Mill Lane) and the mounds still exist which were to reduce the impact of any explosion.
