See the attached document, under Service Definitions - Pleasure https://www.prm-newage.com/p12-prm150 Not sure how that fits with hire or shared ownership boats which usually do well over 1000 hours per annum. It was never 750Hrs and that reverence to 500Hrs in the link doesn't refer to oil changes. At whatever Hrs it is, it's still annual in any case. It would be interesting to have the gearbox oil in a PRM150 analysed at 250 hours to determine how hard it works and base the changes on that. When I worked for BT the oil change interval for their 6500 standby generators was increased from yearly to 6 yearly based on oil analysis. Manufactureres have to consider their product working under the most onerous conditions when determing maintenance requirements. The oil in a PRM150 in a canal boat certainly doesn't work hard compared to the oil in the engine. Lower operating temperatures, no dilution by diesel and no combustion products having to be carried by it. The fact that different engines use different grades and RPM say "use engine oil" shows that the grade isn't critical.
