blackrose
I began insulating my doors today, starting with the stern doors. They're steel doors, no windows but they've never been insulated and just have a sheet of 20mm oak faced MDF bonded to them. Since after 12 years of owning the boat the MDF is still fine and has never blown I decided to save myself the job of removing it and so I just stuck 30mm Cellotex to the MDF with Stixall. Then I used B&Q vinyl floor planks on top of the Cellotex. They're self-adhesive but obviously not designed to be stuck to vertical surfaces, so I used Stixall for these too. Now I just need to finish the edges off with some wood grain effect plastic angle trim I've ordered from eBay, and put the vent grilles back on. blackrose
An update on the finished doors. Couldn't do anything over winter. The trim around the edges is just 30mm wood grain effect plastic angle that I stuck on with Stixall. I screwed the bolts and handles right though the cellotex into the original MDF lining with long brass screws. I thought things screwed in like that might wobble but it's all very solid. blackrose
Someone asked me what the point of insulating the doors was considering that there's a big ventilation hole in each door? But if you take that argument to its logical conclusion then why would you bother with any insulation on a boat? ?? Insulation and ventilation are two different things.
