Public liability ins.

 Im looking to find a reasonable price for PLins for boat painting. Would anyone have any advice? I tend to concentrate on sections , like a roof and not complete boats. Its for acquaintances or friends really, not full time.

I started off using Post Office PL Insurance for , around £100 per year.

I'd have thought just classing yourself as a painter and decorator would suffice. Loads of PLI policies must be available for that. 

Undertaking not to use blowlamps for paint stripping will probably reduce the usual premium by 50% at least.

I too am with towergate but there are loads out there

I can get Tradesman or Handyman ,but when i mention boats its a different matter lol. Much of my work will be in a marina , where public liability is a requirement.

My advice, take it or leave it is be honest on what/where/when you do it or you are paying for nowt as insurance company will not honour any claims if the crap hits the fan. Full disclosure or you are simply wasting yer brass for a worthless bit of paper.

I  am with Royal Sun Alliance which I get  through Fowler Penfold. Not cheap but satifies all of the marinas  I have worked in.

Presumably thats because there's a lot more tradesmen and handymen out there than boat painters. Some of the marine insurance brokers also offer marine trade policies, so worth contacting.
