Mac of Cygnet
Because of a large explosion in the area (not in the tunnel), Harecastle Tunnel is closed at the moment. There is an engineer in the tunnel at the moment checking for structural damage. I'm at the South Portal, in an increasing queue of boats. Apparently the explosion has made the local news, and was heard and felt quite strongly at Westport Lake, although I noticed nothing at Etruria. Mac of Cygnet
Well we eventually got through, but be aware that there is a queue of about 20 boats at the north portal, which will probably take the rest of the day to clear. adam1uk
We came through Harecastle this morning, heading north, first boat through. We arrived at the south portal at about 7.30, at the same time as the tunnel keeper, and started our passage at 8.17 (according to my camera). We heard no loud explosion. When we got to the north end, the tunnel keeper there asked us if we'd heard anything. It seems we were lucky to get through before they closed it.
