Boat canopy zip, tips, help appreciated.

Featured Posts

Hello Canalworlders, The canopy on boat is a few years old now, the zips are a bit stiff and am wary that they will break, anyone know of something good that will help with this please, not wanting the expense of a new canopy at this time. Any good tips please folks.

Not sure if it's an old wives tale, but you're meant to draw on the zipper with a normal pencil, the graphite is meant to help movement.

Pencil lead is so smoothe, so that may work.  Old wives tales are usually interesting.. Thankyou Heffalump for taking the time.

Open zip - rub a candle up and down the zip teeth (do both sides of the zip)

Give the zips a good scrub with soapy water to get rid of dirt. When dry spray with silicone (furniture polish will do it) as previously suggested. Avoid oil, WD40 or grease as this will attract dust and eventually impair the zip slide.
