Out of water boat storage

Mick in Bangkok

Featured Posts

Hi all,

For live boards without a permanent mooring is there many facilities for storing boats out of the water in a safe place for several months of the year say if you were going overseas for some time. If so can anyone give an indication of the cost per month and how accessible would the boat be during this storage period.

Cheers Mick

Sorry, better explain, considering spending some time on the canals in the coming years and considering what options there are, a more practical question would be is this a normal option and cost wise how does it compare to a floating mooring.

Not sure of areas and size yet that will be decided later.

Cheers Mick

Another vote for Debdale Wharf. Full access, shore power available, and able to stay on board if required (have to provide own steps though).

All prices were on their website last time I looked. No connection, just a happy customer.

Debdale was a fair bit cheaper on hard standing when we were there, but yes, need to factor in cost of moving to and from hard standing, and (compulsory) pressure wash charge.

Also worth bearing in mind a boat is much colder to live on in winter when out of the water.

We put our boat onto hard standing for the time we are in Oz. Nine months from early July due to a family illness, normally six months. It costs the same to have it either in or out of the water with the marina(Swanley Bridge) and the cost of taking it out (approx 170 pounds) but we save six months licence fee. So we save around 400 pounds by having the boat on hard standing. Of course this suits us but maybe not the OP.
