Sea Dog
That looks as though it would be quite difficult to do on purpose - certainly below about 40 knots!

WotEver
Is that part of the river tidal?
Aguila
Probably attempting the Ribble Link. Looking at the hills in the background, I guess it's somewhere hear the mouth of the River Douglas where it joins the River Ribble.

If, as others have suggested, its the ribble link then given the tides its quite easy (I know someone who did pretty much the same thing)... all you need to do is drift out of the channel on a very high tide and you're stuck. frangar
I think the tides have been higher than normal....still think that's impressive. It's a fairly well marked channel...
Peter-Bullfinch
Just maybe they decided to cut the corner into the River Douglas from the Ribble rather than carry on to the Asland Lamp which is the turning point. It will have looked tempting to cut the corner at high tide but not only is the bank there there is the Ribble channel training wall. This is a really good safe trip which many boats make successfully every year but you do need to follow the advised route.
