Alternator / RPM reading.

Featured Posts

Hello, your help would be appreciated. I have a Lucas type A127 70amp alternator. I have changed the alternator pulley diameter to help with charging at relatively low tick over 409 rpm and average 700/750rpm when on the move. Will I need to adjust anything to allow rev counter to give accurate rpm reading with the smaller pulley? If yes can you give advise?

Thanks in advance,

Garry.

Yes, presuming your tacho is driven by the alternator, which most are these days. There is normally some kind of selector switch or adjustment potentiometer accessed from the back of the instrument. But I'd try running the engine first to see if the indication has changed or not. It could be that the tacho is triggered by something else (crank sensor etc) that you haven't changed.
