We've just bagged the last free mooring in West London. Setting off tomorrow morning  from Paddington along the Regent's and Hertford Union and up the Lee, where are good places to aim for overnight mooring tomorrow on the Lee?

Having just done that journey; anywhere after Tottenham Lock should be gaps.  However the surroundings may not inspire. After Tott Lock there is the chance to really open up the motor and pick up time. We pushed onto Alfies/Picketts Lock and moor just below that. Suprisingly quiet.

Watch out for the lycra clad brigage in morning.

You can't go by Google Earth........ all those gaps shown on Google Earth are filled.

Paddington to Ponders End is a reasonable days boating and have never failed to get a mooring there.  There is a large steakhouse pub there (The Navigation) doing reasonable meals but no real Ale.

Also a boatyard (South Island Marina) for coal/diesel.

It's lovely from Homerton Road bridge all the way up to Springfield Park as you're on Hackney / Leyton / Walthamstow marshes and there's usually a spot free somewhere along that stretch. North of Springfield Park has been dodgy at night in the last couple of months due to muggings, especially around Markfield Park. It's kind of grim from there until Enfield anyway so I'd suggest staying at the marshes if you can.

Thanks again. We got though Stonebridge lock and then the rain started, but lo! there was a Melaleuca-sized gap in the endless line of moored boats, so that where we are for tonight.

Some confusion was caused at Tottenham lock by the lack or readable signage and the huge CRT workboat occupying the lock landing, but we made it through. And for those who are doing the same trip, yes, the tiny hole in the wall seemingly with a  building-site behind really is  the entrance to Duckett's cut from  the Regent's Canal :)

I only found it cos I remember Tim bashing a great lump out of the wall trying to do the turn.....  ;)

And yes I lined up perfectly in the wrong Tottenham lock before backing out.

Where are you heading?

Birmingham, sort of :) The plan is to explore the Lee and Stort and find somewhere to leave the boat whilst to join Team Tawny Owl for the BCN challenge. Anywhere along here is easy for a station on the Cambridge to Liverpool Street line, which will get us home.to collect the Ford Focus of Doom.  That will take us on the Brum trip, with a stop-off in Market Harborough to exchange a faulty battery.

After that, back to London and then up the Thames and eventually the South Oxford.

See, London isn't that full..... we have always found somewhere around Victoria Park to moor. Cheshunt is a popular place to moor for the station, anywhere on the Stort is tricky to find moorings, it being a river.
