Hello all,

Can anyone advise for decent moorings near Stourbridge? Due to visit soon on an alternative Stourport Ring  trip with a view to visiting The Vine ( aka The Bull And Bladder) and Lye for a curry.

Ta ra a Bit.......

There are good moorings at Stourbridge basin at the end of the arm.

Delph is nearest to The Vine but you could walk from the moorings at Merry Hill.

When we tried to moor there last summer, there were no spaces in the basin. All the moorings were taken by what looked like long stayers. Plenty of moorungs available on the approach to the basin, but to be frank they looked a bit grim. We decided to continue to Merry Hill and we're glad we did. Nice moorings and, despite it being a weekend, relatively quiet. We felt quite secure there. They would be our moorings of choice next time we are in the area.

We moored just outside the basin about two weeks ago, one boat length up from the fence. It was a bit grim at first, but a quick litter pick and moving an old TV out the way made a huge difference! Only suitable for an overnight stop.

Merry Hill was a surprisingly good place to moor, likewise will stay again.

Edit: Ignore the above, I was thinking of Hawne Basin. Stourbridge is as others have said - fine outside the basin on the rings.

We stayed on those rings outside the Stourport basin only a day ago and have done so several times without issue. Whilst there's been little effort to make them attractive (and they could be), they're fine. Besides, Merry Hill is probably the next day's mooring if you're heading that way round.

The bottom ent of The Sourbridge Town Arm is often full. We had to breast up last time we were there. Some inconsiderate mooring very close to (..but not actually blocking..) the winding hole made turning our 70' a tad fraught...

Yes but... the end of the arm there is also home moorings and not the free public visitor moorings which are just before the fence. These are perfectly ok to the point where I've never seen the need to book into the Trust's bit. You do need to go in there to wind at the end though, and it can be a bit crowded!

We've stayed on the visitor moorings, just below the lock before. We were moored there once on a Wednesday evening which is canoe club night. Great to see the kids thoroughly enjoying themselves! We ate at The Glassworks which is a Marstons food based pub. It's OK but nothing special!

If you go right down the arm, it's a short stroll into Stourbridge town centre. St Tropez it's not, but you can get all the provisions you might need, a very good curry, and there's even a Bathams' pub if you're a fan and hence prepared to walk just a little further. I quite like the new (dog friendly) "The Old Bank" pub which has a good selection of real ales and nice lunchtime food.
