2" bore, 40" long in thick moulded rubber.

Might it be a railway brake vacuum hose ?

I would like a few more as boat fenders.

I bought this one at a jumble but don't know what to call it when searching the 'net..

Thx for any help

It's just ordinary convoluted water hose, can be cut to length as required. The low flats in the convolutes are to place hose clips. Available in lengths and various bores at car spares shops or motor factors, or used to be.

I've found boat fenders to be really good for that purpose - is there a good reason why you'd seek something not designed for the job and not as easily available?

Thanks for the suggestions folks.

I feel the the usual plastic fenders (even in black) round the nose of the tug aren't quite the look I have in mind.

Some thick black plastic pipe would work, but failing that, rubber hose will do, though I only have one piece so far.

Ah, now I get it!

Black Prince fit thick rubber-like D section vertically down the prow of their hire boats. It looks hideous (although I approve heartily in that application!) but horizontally round the bow of a tug might be quite an elegant but tough solution in keeping with the boat's looks?
