Obsession with privacy on the Thames

There is a sign on the main road outside the prisons here on the IoW saying 'The taking of photographs is prohibited'.

.....................I'm tempted!

That would be the same with any HMP or indeed any MOD site.

Whilst you might not get anything other than a cup of tea courtesy of the guardhouse, you might be grateful that you live in a country where such action does not automatically lead to lengthy incarceration. This has sadly been the experience of too many British tourists overseas in the past.

From a GTECH advert:

"The built-in safety switch of the Gtech HT04 prevents accidental starting and the unit stops instantly when you take one hand off".

Made me chuckle when I read it in the national press. Seems the latest adverts have the tool added at the end of the sentence!

Absolutely - someone with (some) sense of humour trying to soften the message.

Good try!

Sometimes such a punch line makes folks take more notice?

There was also a post box on the bridge below Sonning a couple of years ago.

The interesting thing about Sonning is that it has NO pubs and so I think the locals just get very bored.

There is a post box now on the big wall near Purley.

There is a pub in Sonning near the Church.

The dog one I accept. Perhaps a little silly, though. I wonder if it actually MAKES people clean up after their dog, if they wouldn't have done so already.

The duck one was quite a distance from the water, not in a place where you would expect to find ducks.I found it a waste of money for no purpose--but then I'm a miserable old git ( or so my wife tells me)

Many years ago saw a sign on the Thames above Newbridge " Mooring £25 per night" at the bottom of the sign had been written in felt tip "IOU £50" !

Also years ago there was a "No Mooring" sign on a field near Kelmscot on the upper Thames where someone had removed the letter R. Anyone who has been there will see why
