Final notice from CRT:

Update on 10/06/2016:

We have been refilling the canal slowly under the supervision of our engineers and we are pleased to confirm that the canal will be open to navigation and the towpath will be open for pedestrians from 1500 this afternoon. Our staff will be on site to giving a verbal update to boaters without web access.

We will remain on site over the weekend and into next week, when we will be carrying out grouting repairs behind the offside washwall at Clarence Mill.

Many thanks for your patience and good will. Please join us in thanking our contractors for carrying out the repairs so quickly and safely under challenging conditions. We are also grateful to our neighbours in Bollington for their continued help and cooperation.

Excellent news. Onwards and southwards then. Just dumped a car at Aston so we can get home again on Sunday evening.

I didn't spot Mr Jinks Dave, but then Marple was fairly busy.

Mr Jinks was back at its mooring :-)

We were visiting the kids (30 ft blue and orange with no name)

Latest news from CRT :

Macclesfield Canal
Starts At: Bridge 27, Kerridge Road Bridge
Ends At: Bridge 26, Sugar Lane Bridge
Up Stream Winding Hole: Between bridges 25 and 26.
Down Stream Winding Hole: Bollington Wharf

Tuesday 21 June 2016 11:00 until further notice

Type: Navigation Restriction
Reason: Repair

Original message:

Unfortunately, the leak that we recently repaired at Bollington has reoccurred.

Following engineering inspection this morning we are immediately starting attempting repairs at the site, however, it’s not certain that these will be successful.

If this work does not stop the leak we will close the canal on Thursday 23rd June to allow us to drain the canal to allow the repairs to be completed.

The closure will be between bridges 26 and 27.

We are suspending moorings between bridges 26 and 27 with immediate effect, in anticipation of the need to drain the canal.

We know that this will be disappointing news. Want to assure our customers that we are working as quickly as possible to complete this repair and minimise disruption.

We will provide a further update by the end of the day on Thursday 23rd June.

Good news! Latest update on CRT stoppages page:

Following a successful start to works on site we can confirm that we do not plan to install stop planks at present.

We've been on site since Tuesday investigating ongoing leakage. We've located and filled a large hole in the bed of the canal. We have observed an immediate positive effect on the leakage into Bollington recreation ground.

Our contractors will continue bed repairs and grouting voids behind the wash wall during the rest of this week and will be working on site over the weekend.

We are optimistic that the repairs we are making now will avoid us having to drain the canal. We will review the leakage and bed condition on Monday and will provide a further update then.

Update from CRT website 5 minutes ago:

Our contractors finished grouting the washwall on Friday and have been on site over the weekend monitoring the leakage and the condition of the bed repair.

Observations confirm that the leakage from the embankment into neighbouring land has now stopped and the bed repair is holding. We now plan to place more clay to finish off the bed repair over the next few days and aim to remove equipment and fencing later this week. Based on current leakage and bed conditions we do not plan to close the canal but will restrict mooring immediately over the leak location.

We are cautiously optimistic about the repairs and remain committed to keeping the canal open during the coming weeks and months. We will continue to monitor the embankment and bed repairs for signs of leakage and will take steps to safeguard the canal as necessary. We will provide updates if this situation changes.

Once again thank you for your continued support and interest.

Is the Macc still closed?

On the CaRT website there appear to be no closures on this canal, only advice (!).

North West & Pennine closures are listed as the Ashton, Rochdale and Irwell but not the Macclesfield

See post 68, no it's not.
