We are looking for inspiration for things to see and do in Nottingham.

We are heading up that way next weekend for a week and this time instead of just spending one night there on our way through we are looking to have two or three nights, and days, in the city.

Any suggestions will be gratefully received.

So far the only things on our list are a drink in The Navigation on our way through the lock and a few drinks in Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem.

The caves tour is good so is the castle and we loved the ghost tour.

The museum of nottingham life next to the trip is worth a visit.

And don't forget drinking in the canal house, pit and pendulum, royal children, salutation and about 350 more

I was going to suggest the Mansfield Road/ Sherwood Street crawl but the pubs will be busy because its freshers week!! Some good architecture - take a walk round the Lacemarket area. Also some good 1930s building like New Castle House on Castle Boulevard. Good independent cinema - Broadway - National Video Games Arcade on Carlton Street http://gamecity.org/.

Rock City for music http://www.rock-city.co.uk/

If you like football Meadow Lane is the place to visit not the dodgy ground on the other side of the river!!

Ummm .... If you can get past Broadmarsh and the Robin Hood statue, there's the museum and art gallery in the Castle (with some great views across the city), and there's the Nottingham Arts Theatre, the Nottingham Contemporary Art Gallery, the Theatre Royal & Concert Hall and the Capital FM Arena (which has an ice rink and a concert arena) - not sure what'll be on when you'll be there. The Lace Market, as already mentioned, is worth a wander around, and handy for a Pitcher and Piano, this one's wonderfully set in a former church and serves good food and drink, the Hungry Pumpkin is a great little deli-cafe (and it is tiny - but good for a quick lunch stop), Delilah's on Victoria St. is a foodie's shopping heaven - and they have a great little cafe too, and there's several other restaurants nearby too. There's a lovely little vintage clothes shop in King's Walk. There's a good-sized John Lewis up on Lower Parliament St. Oh, and the Alley Cafe Bar, on Long Row West (off Angel Row) may not look promising from the outside but does excellent good fun food smile.png

Burger bar (used to be Annies's) at Navigation pub adjacent to Castle lock. Ye olde trip to Jerusalem pub located in Castle mound - oldest in UK 1189 AD. In fact loads of interesting pubs and canal related builidings in this area including Fellows, Morton and Clayton Ltd. (pub). Castle Rock brewery (near station) visit with excellent pint at adjacent pub outlet the Vat & Fiddle.

Hockley for the weird and wonderful shops. Broad Marsh shopping centre is half empty so don't bother.

My son's band plays regularly in the Angel in Hockley buy you need to like death metal to go there.

The whiskey shop at the back of the council house is an interesting shop as long as your not driving.

Eat at encounters on Mansfield Road. Amazing English restaurant in an old cake shop. Next Friday we are at a 70 concert in the Albert Hall.

The Old Market Square sometimes has things happening, a fairly impressive town square.

An historic pub is the 'Malt Cross' on St James's Street, just off the Old Market Square, an old music hall, it has just had a load of lottery money spent on it.

A shop called 'Dukki' in broad marsh shopping centre which has things like canvas shopping bags with 'ay up me duck' on them.

Look above street level at the old builidings, eg architecture by Fothergill Watson.

Hooters? Really? I dread to think how that establishment looks once it's been through the PC / equal ops wringer and then has a generous dose of Brit customer service added to the mix!

Not been to one in tbe UK, but the wings are good, that is why you go to hooters isn't it?

First we have to fix the boat today.

For reasons unknown the raw water pump inexplicably developed a leak yesterday and started pouring water over the alternator.

Trip to Newark Marina today to pick up the bits then a trip across the marina to a friends house to fix it!
