How did team poppycat get two places in the results?

Have I mentioned that the Northern BCN is a place where strange things happen?

We weren't last Yipppe

Far from it, very respectable

Very pleased with that result, we found it a lot harder going this year with levels off on the Wyrley and the Rushall. We didn't quite cover the ground that we did last year, but I am guessing other teams didn't either.

Well done to everyone taking part, I am especially pleased to see a Norton Canes in the top 10!

Sorry, we needed to get away so that we could get the boat back to Alvecote, we managed to get down Aston that evening. Hopefully we will see you around somewhere, maybe Braunston?

Is there a list somewhere of previous winners of the challenge? It would be quite interesting to see.

Congratulations Laurie on your fine finishing position.

Especially as the contest was so close, Nuneaton and Brighton pose a serious threat!

I reckon if not for the butty they might have done it.

For those of us not involved this year, could you please briefly explain the scoring?

It seemed to me last year that with the factoring the miles by length, it made it very hard for anything other than a full length boat to win.

i thought I saw that had now changed, but the winner was still full length, and other full lengths seemed to do well.

So how was it actually done this year please.....

.........Shuffles off realising that his master plan of swapping a 50 foot boat for a 71' 6" one might not have been such a good one after all!.........

Boats up to 50ft scored 1 point per mile, boats over 50ft scored 1.3 points per mile.

So 51ft was on the same points as 71ft.

Could be those that did best tried hardest and boated for longest? (and didn't get stuck at the failed Factory Locks, that was our excuse)

One big difference this year was that the ponts per mile was one value for sub 50ft and a higher value for 50ft and above. That is whey we managed 2nd with a 50ft boat, where last year we had no chance. However that said, my planning showed that the high lock count route we did last year was still a good route, and I suspect that is how a 20ft boat was able to come 4th. So the scoring basically seemed more ballenced this year.

If we can't enter Iona next year we might go for an easy year and ask to join Team Clarrie - you get to the end nice and early, get to see everyone arrive and there's plenty of beer left!

I like your style Laurie :D

Slackers

Richard

we cut short our intended cruise to make sure we finished on time, recorded as finishing 1.55pm. Beer still availablecheers.gif

in fact, I believe we would have almost won if we had continued our jouney and been allowed our points to stand like all the other boats who queued up at 4pm.

We probably wouldnl;t have arrived until Monday though.

Yes, we had the last of it

On that point, Charlie Felonious Mongoose was very pleased with the quantity of beer that they bought (2 barrels). He thought that was quite enough

He needs re-educating

That's hilarious, and Monkey's face looked pretty much like that on every other occasion I had something to laugh at all weekend too!

RLWP: Ooh, are those sausages?

ME: Yes, help yourself

RLWP: Munch chomp munch

Monkey: ARE THOSE OUR SAUSAGES?????

You are moor than welcome to go in convoy with us next year.

We love meeting all the boating folks even "Mike the Boiler man"

I get to the finishing point early so that I can take pictures of the boats.

I even this year managed to get to the "Old Swan" Bumblehole
