Ive Nudged this Thread, Rather than start a New one.

As I've said many times, ' I love Bartering'.

I decided to go for a trip out in the VERY early, Calm & Still hours of this morning, Only a few mile out to dump my Tank, Have a Coffee, Watch the Commercial Fishing Boats & watch the Sun come up.

I was returning from my trip, & come across a

small pleasure boat 3 occupants, Anchord in the approach to the Harbour (Not a Good Place).

After going alongside, It turned out that they had lost there prop off there Outboard Engine, & was in the process of putting another on, to go out for a few hours Fishing. They was well prepared, Obviously Competent & Sensible.

No real drama.

I chucked them a line, (At there request) took them in tow, Nudged them on to a Pontoon at the local AYC & then went on to my moorings the whole thing took 10 minutes.

I've just (Well 20 minutes ago) had a knock on the Hull and a bag offers to me.

Three Fair Sized Prepared HUSS or Smooth Hound.

At the VERY Top of Picture is the only Real Bone to remove,

Then the Middle Two are the flattens Inside & Outside of the Fish.

The Bottom oOne is How All Three Fish Was Given to me, Top, Tailed, Skinned & Gutted.

Then I just finished off, See the Bones !.

Then Chopped and portioned up for Me & Charlie.

Me & Charlie sorted for a few Lunch & Dinners, & it doesn't get fresher !.

Shame to freeze it really.

Hi ya NC,

Are they really !,, Hmmm, I will let you know tomorrow !.

They are really quite big, But I don't want to catch them until they have cleaned the bottom of my boat off, Although, they seam more interested in the Pontoon float at the moment !.

Getting fed up with Lobsters & Crab.

Gave a load to a neighbor the other day, & they invited me up for a Spaghetti Bol, With Home Made Garlic Bread & Butter ,, Very much Welcomed.

I then also had a 'Romantic Meal for two' Sent down from 'The Boat House Cafe' a few Nights after. For some favours I done them.

Well they say a way to mans hart is through there stomach,, My hart must be getting a real bugger to find now !.

More Bartering joys !

I've revived this thread because I went out for a short meander earlier today, and on my travels found a beautiful little spot to drop the hook, & partake in some Fresh Filter Coffee and a selection box of Morrisons Fresh Donuts.

After 2 mugs & 4 treats (so probably about an

hour) a small open Fiberglass Fishing Boat decided to follow suit about 800 metres away,

Then about 2 hours later I head & noticed a lot of fuss & bother, Puffing panting and so on from the two occupants, After a quick look through the Binoculars I could see the commotion & efforts was directed in trying to recover an obviously Stubborn Anchor that was doing what it does best, & was stuck fast .

So long story short I edged over, after an exchange of pleasantries, took there Anchor chain, put it in my small but capable Windlass and using the buoyancy of my bow teased it from it's grip. So all good.

As a thank you I was given a cpl of Fish Fillets, and a Fish.

Back at my mooring, I took a picture, now I'm no fisherman, but is this a load of Pollack's !.

Forgot to measure the bugger before I prepared Portioned up, and put it in my freezer but compar the pix and you can see it was 36 inches long.

I love Bartering.

20 nay maybe 21 years ago I was bartered with. We were in Glastonbury, in the little car park in the centre, living out the back of a 67 Bedford CA panel van, we only had one son at the time and we crossed paths with a group of enlightened travellers. They needed water, we had water, they only had cannabis as a tool, I didn't particularly need cannabis. We exchanged. I can't remember much else.....

It was a while ago back in the 80's, when the tall ships race first came to Liverpool.

There was a new café opened by where I was working that wanted nautical pictures to hang on the walls.

So the deal was I supplied the pictures and I got a free dinner for 6 months.

We give service or goods and receive in return.

Our skills used without coinage consideration.

Earliest form of trade, takes us all back to pre coin era...not that we remember that time!

Not describing very well what I mean but I know what I mean, more satisfying...

Where's Tree gone?

I think she got a little upset that one or two of her posts got some, on here, arguing over her unique way of saying things.

Arguing was never what that lass was all about!

She did mention that she would have to make a decision about leaving the forum.

Sad really when what people and how they say it gets argued over.

Come back Tree, you always made me smile!

General question

Why do we think Bartering services or goods actually gives more pleasure or value in our minds, than Paying for something actually does ?.

Because it's a Win Win situation (sorry that sounds like corporate boll***s)

Seriously though -You're generally swapping something that you no longer need or have an excess of, for something you do need or like- so both sides are happy. Iguess its nicer when you're happy but have also made someone else happy.cheers.gif

I don't think the IR would be interested in small scale bartering of the sort described. No doubt there's a bit of a grey area, but surely tax only comes into it when significant money is changing hands and/or it's between businesses?

Each year I use my neighbour's grapes to make some wine and give her a bottle or two of it, the rest being given away to my friends and relatives, mostly drunk by my son and his friends. If I sold it I'd not only be liable for tax, I'd need an alcohol licence!

The odd thing is, I gave up drinking long ago and just make the wine for fun. I don't taste it, I just rely on comments to find out if I got it right. Apparently after two years of just about drinkable plonk, my 2013 vin de Croydon was pretty damn good.

Must be from the Shirley or Upper Addiscombe vineyard?
