TeeELL
Hello everyone, over the years I have noticed that, when locking down, there is often a quite strong 'disinfectant' type smell from within the lock. The smell is reminiscent of the 'hospital smell' of the 'old days'. Now, my better half is an aromatherapist and she cannot explain what the cause is so I am posting on here to see if anyone can shed light. There appears to be no specific set of circumstances either geographic or meteorological etc that influences when or where the aroma can be detected. So, over to you expert botanists, or whatever! bigste
Pretty obvious it's your boat that smells not the lock. lol Try walking ahead and see if the next lock smells. Edited October 8, 2013 by bigste
Kae
That's a new one, never experienced that personally and we've done over a hundred locks this year both up and down!
The Lockie
Yep I noticed that too years ago when we were cc,'ers. So its not a new thing only very rarely did I get the antiseptic type whiff, always wondered why. I thought it may be some sort of pollutant say run off from fields but hopefully someone will have the answer!
Swallowman
Never noticed it "on the cut" but in some rather unsalubrious areas in towns, I have noticed a very strong anti-septic type smell which I am told is down to certain types of weedkiller. If the OP was in the glorious countryside, it could well be run-off from a field nearby making its way through the subsoil to emerge through the many cracks in the lock wall as it empties. notaminga
Maybe you are smelling ozone from all the turbulent water.
