Tug Decks

It does make you wonder about this one, then !

(Petter PD2, but quoted as 21 feet overall length for the boat!....)

If it can be handled, I bet it goes, though !......

My tug, SANDBACH, was built in 1946 by Yarwoods at 25ft long. In less than 12 months she was sent back to have 10ft inserted in the middle. My guess is that she handled like a pig and needed to be longer. Even at 35ft she is "lively" and will turn to go home rapidly if I take my hand off the tiller! The advantage is that I can turn at many more places than just winding holes (but not anywhere I feel like, even at 35ft long).

  • 2 months later...

go a tug deck on our boat the dinette sofa thing lives under there so we can have loose chars during the day making our little 6ft saloon very useful :) and they make it easy to get on and off the boat if your a bit old and cant move very easy like my mum just make sure you got some sort of sandex grip or something in a terential downpour become a little slippy!

I like tugs!

There, I said it!! I'm out of the closet!

Mrs Hum looks around nervously.

So do I, for me it is a very practical space. I can store a motorbike or my little fishing dingy on there, it's a picnic area, an outdoor space for the dogs, easy access on and off the boat is a bonus. The under deck storage is a bonus I have space for a washing machine, a water tank, pumps and accumalators, a calorifier, all the kitchen pots and pans, a wine rack & storage for the dogs food. THEN I have a garden shed area with hoses, tools, seats tables, umberallas, paints etc etc all the bits and bobs I normally stored in the front lockers of my old boat but much more space available.

On my old boat, the large (4 person) front well was used, but nowhere near to the level of the tugs front deck. Without the cratch and cover of the old boat, the Tug has a real airy feel with the main cabin doors open, it's just a nice place to be looking out.

At 70' it's a bit long for some peoples tastes but It does give us plenty of room for living.

hi,

A useful point with tug decks is easy access, we sometimes take a friend who is confined to a wheelchair out for a trip and the tug deck makes it easy for them to get on or off and remain in their chair as we trundle along.

Have just caught up with this post, nice pics of Albion Mills Alan!, I agree about standing in the hatch, but it was the morning after the Southern GU banter and ................headache!.
