Maureen Shaw - Wardle's Lock

Featured Posts

Always good to meet Maureen as we pass through her canal. In 2005 Starling and Ethel passed the cottage and worked down Middlewich locks and Maureen worked some gates. It wasn't an everyday experience, it seems, as she brought her camera.

Thanks for sharing those pictures with us. A fitting tribute to the type of person Maureen is, never afraid of getting stuck in with the locks!

The boats are superb too.

Nice location, but look at the plan...

Very impractical layout and with Grade 2 listing, a limit to what you can do with it. I understand it is in pretty poor condition as well, with significant damp problems and in need of rewiring. It will be interesting to see what it goes for.

It will probably end up with someone who complains about the rattle of the gear and that people look in their windows.

Or even worse, there are BOATS there!!:wub:

You could be right!

We stopped to fill our boat up with water in Wheelock on the Trent & Mersey. The water point there carries a warning notice that boaters MUST NOT stay for more than 30 minutes. We were advised by another boater that failure to comply, resulted in a good ear bashing from the occupiers of the near by canal side cottage.

Apparently, they don't like boats or boaters.:rolleyes:

All too typical. Like those who buy houses by churches then complain about the bells when they are trying to lie in on a Sunday.

Yes, and then there's other ridiculous account of wealthy city slickers who buy rural properties, only to then complain about noisy farmers and their harvesting machines!

How do such ignorant people accumulate so much wealth?

It also has a conservatory, built without listed building consent, which may have to be demolished....
