woolies
Last week we hired a boat from marine cruises boat name Kimberly 2. From the Falkirk wheel we went east on the union canal to Edinburgh. First stop on Saturday was 4 hrs from when you leave the wheel stopping at Linlithgow, At Linlithgow you can moor before the bridge by the road where you can fill with water to or after the bridge there’s visitor mooring but we parked by water point opposite a boat museum. Also if you don’t get to Linlithgow before 9pm all the restaurants/pubs stop selling meals we just made it had a meal in the post office restaurant. Day 2 we went for a walk round Linlithgow there a huge lake and castle and church as you walk through the town on the right, Later that day we cruised 4 mile or so to Ratho were we stayed at nice mooring next to Bridge Inn pub/restaurant meals are nice. Lots of swans and ducks to feed there. Day 3 we pushed on to Edinburgh quay you have to phone ahead to lift the road bridge to enter Quay, We moored out side Cargo in the quay. From there we went to princess street seen the castle and walked through the park were there was street performances. George streets just as nice we had a meal in Hard rock café. Day 4 we left the quay back to Linlithgow were we walked round lake stayed over night because dad wanted to go to Glasgow in the morning to see the science museum. Day 5 Glasgow, from Linlithgow mooring walk down hill to train station £20 for a group ticket of peak, Dad spent day in museum us girls hit the shops, shops were really good. That night we left Linlithgow about maybe 2 mile down canal there’s a turn on you left a visitor mooring its really secluded in the woods. When it turned 10pm we heard noises out side and the whole area was covered in bats was really spooky and me and Emma wouldn’t go out side. Day 6 We arrived at the wheel for 11.30 so we spoke to the British waterways people they suggested we turned left out of the wheel and go down to lock 17 for the night. There’s a restaurant there called Underwood Was really nice place had big choice of menu. Day 7. We went back up towards the base and looked around the wheel. Was really nice change for us as British open all locks and bridges for you an the down side you have to plan the day before as you have to phone ahead so its hard to plan how far you want to travel. Also was amazed how clean the canal was you could see the bottom in places also me and Emma could feed the fish as you could see them. love Molly

Keeping Up
It's great to read some detailed impressions of the canal up there. Bats are nice warm friendly creatures, you should have gone out and made friends with them!
Biggles
I am quiet jealous. We like Edinburgh, my wife especially likes the shopping you won't be surprise to hear. I just like the city overall. Shame about all the roadworks upheaval. You missed an eating extravaganza at Here We have been on the trip boat on the Falkirk Wheel. Very impressive indeed and a really nice visitors center. Thanks for sharing. Biggles

Leonie
That sounds like a great holiday to me. I've been on the trip boat on the Falkirk Wheel and I absolutely LOVE IT. I took lots of photos of the glamorous construction coming out of the green hillside. I'd love to get up there and visit it again. I used to live in Edinburgh so I've also visited Linlithgow. The old castle there is quite cool I think. Excellent report of a great trip woolies, thanks.
