Who is the painter?

Stupid bidders Alan, not worth bidding for at all.

I must admit that one was a strange ebay item.. Nice old look but anything more than 35 quid seems mad, maybe I am missing something with that can?

It's a miniature at 7" tall. Nice roses though. Looks like a practiced hand.

Yep, a "toy" one!

Although I know it is sometimes suggested these were used to decant smaller quantities of water for use inside.

I have to admit though, that in all the reading I have ever done, I can't ever recall an actual reference to that happening in practice.

Darren,

I reckon its a Bockocks (Birmingham) one from the late 1970's as its identical to one I have from "Neptune" (purchashed 1978) which is hanging on the terrace. Don't know who the painter is but have seen it before, they did sell painted ones themselves to stores like Harrods at one time.

Just obtained a miniature stool, measures 9.5" tall X 10.5" across X 9" deep. It has an opening lid.

As it is in this thread, any idea of painter please?

I know the boating family it came from so I know its heritage.

Thank you.

Very interesting.

Looks a very simple style of roses verging on the naïve. But very bold, confident and consistent so a very practiced hand.

No idea who it is.

Jess Owen of Charity Dock.

Perhaps.

Be happy to be proved wrong but I don't remember Jess doing any "Knobstick" style roses, the castle too certainly seems not to be in his style.

I have some good pictures of his work but the site wont accept pics atm.

The castle style seems to me especially distinctive, and accomplished. so most likely to be the best identifying aspect of the work.

I bought it in a chandlery on the Wey Navigation, in case that helps.

Discovered at the Braunston show the painter is Morris Peasland.

I'm fairly certain that they are transfers, identical, as Tony says, to the ones produced by Alan Picken of Waterfolk in the 60s and 70s. I don't know who was responsible for the original designs but I recall that they stirred controversy even then.

Cheers
