stuart
I'd like to see a latest boating gadget column ! & how to stay Internet connected whilst afloat.. Best deals, prices, laptops, aerials etc.
Chertsey
Features - one offs, with photos, on anything interesting. Longer pieces, magazine style. A column for Carlt is a must. A letters page but nothing too interactive, to differentiate it from a forum. And it doesn't matter if contributors can't spell or punctuate, because that's what editors are for, and I'm damn sure the theoretical editors of this hypothetical publication will be better than NBW's. I might volunteer as a copyeditor/proofreader What will would you call it?
Debby
A column for Carlt is a must. Seconded. I might volunteer as a copyeditor/proofreader Another volunteer for proofreading here - my dream job!
Jason Wilson and Family
A column for Carlt is a must. Agreed What will would you call it? NarrowboatUniverse? Not sure on that either. Been thinking about it and I want to avoid the terms narrow and canal so that leaves me with Waterways... something. Tiny
How would theoretical persons find out this site existed and who would pay if it ended up being sued?
denboy
in theory i'd be willing to do some articles on wild-life / fauna and flora - and possibly some hedgerow recipies (in hypothetical site) mmmm roast hedgehog my favorite
Chris-B
How would theoretical persons find out this site existed and who would pay if it ended up being sued? Sorry but what a bloody stupid question to ask IMO It really show the mentality of some people ( no offence implied) That the I'll sue you culture is all they can think of Yep you can tell I am having a bad day....... Jason Wilson and Family
How would theoretical persons find out this site existed and who would pay if it ended up being sued? Word of mouth and the world wide web would bring them in. As for who would pay, I'd suspect the entire world would mourn. Baked in clay is better because the spines come off, when the clay is removed. Works for nicked chickens too... Monica Sheridan says so.
Chertsey
How would theoretical persons find out this site existed and who would pay if it ended up being sued? It would work on the Private Eye model of not being worth suing because it didn't have any money. Though that does raise the point of how would it be paid for - would all the content be donated for free; editors' time; hosting? Or are we looking at something really swish and professional with advertising?
Jason Wilson and Family
The eventual goal is to attract advertising. I pay £10 a month for my hosting and don't really have anything coming in to cover it. If it gets big enough it could optimistically cover itself and a small salary for editors and such. Of course
Gary Peacock
I own this domain name and you can have it if you want it- www.canalcommunity.net It's not exactly snazzy but it does get the message over. I had a similar idea but just didn't have the time! Edited November 5, 2008 by Gary Peacock
Liam
I could provide free hosting, on a "proper" Linux based server with a control panel etc, but its only on an office ADSL connection...
Jason Wilson and Family
Thinking on how I might use canalcommunity.com and how I want the site to look. I came up with these tests to show my initial thought to a logo and how it might fit. I'm also going to work on some compact and more modern variations. fuzzyduck
Not that I really mind, but wouldn't a more general inland waterways theme be better than limiting yourself to canals? There are alot of specialist canals sites to compete with, less inland waters themed.

blackelle123
I would suggest theoretically speaking off course that there should be a daily/weekly recipe. My hubs says that that is the only type of cooking that I ever do. Find a recipe, write out a list and plan the ingredients and cooking schedule, then slip it back inside the recipe book 'until needed'

Jason Wilson and Family
Does anyone have any ideas for a name. I'm trying to get something that covers call the waterways and gives off the fact that it's news. I'm stumped... keep thinking lock-keeper but it's a stretch to give off the 'source of news' air. Eugene Baston
How about 'Towpath Telegraph'? Fairly popular term already that helps give the site the boost for readership. I'm looking forward to seeing it come online and reading the contributions. If there was room for an annonymous contributor column......... All the best, Eugene
dccruiser
I think it would be good to add a daily weather feature , i have been caught out once or twice over the years by flooding rivers as i am sure many others have, so a river level update would be useful. A possible source of revenue would be to publish the up to the day special offers from the swindleries. Another good feature would be an innovations page , where someone had overcome an electrical / mechanical / maintenance / livaboard issue etc with a bit of ingenuity and a cost saving. Finally, would be happy to help with the above , or anything else that may be needed.
