magpie patrick
A tunnel on the Llangollen? probably Chirk A lock on the Leeds and Liverpool (certainly, the ground paddles give it away). Barrowford?
MartinClark
This second one is at Bank Newton on the Leeds and Liverpool! (Lock 37?)
AlanJ
Blooming heck! I'm beginning to wonder if I can find any that someone doesn't get in a few minutes! You're right, it is Chirck tunnel and Bank Newton locks. How about this place?
magpie patrick
A cutting on the shroppie, but I wouldn't like to say which one (it might be cowley, looking away from the tunnel)
AlanJ
A cutting on the shroppie, but I wouldn't like to say which one (it might be cowley, looking away from the tunnel) Certainly is Cowley I've given up the guessing game - they are obviously too easy. I've been posting links to others that I've scanned and as I find more interesting ones, I'll keep putting up links.
AlanJ
Found the colour transparencies and thought I'd have one last attempt to fox you for more than 30 seconds... Where's this? Eugene Baston
Evening all I'd say that's just below Lapworth on the Stratford. That's what I thought when I saw it anyway. Keeping Up
How about 2 locks down at Atherstone? Edited to add - no I'm wrong, the towpath is the wrong side for that. Edited October 26, 2008 by Keeping Up
stort_mark
The only way to catch people out with photos in this forum is to get them to name the people hidden inside the boats featured. In this case, you've made it easier by saying you're steering.

AlanJ
Sorry, been out all day as it's my birthday Yes, it is the bottom lock at Grindley Brook. Can't remember who was inside at the time though! Don't need to tell you where this is - can't remember whether I've inverted the image or not though! One of the 7 wonders of the waterways aparently - does anyone know where the other 6 are?
stort_mark
One of the 7 wonders of the waterways aparently - does anyone know where the other 6 are? A trickier question might be to name all the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the UK which either contain waterways or have waterways access. (IIRC there are ten of them, out of a total of 24 sites)
SteveE
This is Bingley 5-rise. The others are Pontcysyllte aqueduct, Barton swing aqueduct, Standedge tunnel, Anderton lift, Burnley embankment and the Caen Hill fight at Devizes.
