Most of the hire boats tend to go clockwise and so, if you decide to go anti-clockwise you should hopefully have less delays at locks.

Here in the northern hemisphere we should always travel anti-clockwise (Coriolis effect) other wise we are defying the forces of nature.

Most go clockwise so statistically the locks will be more favourable the other way - that is the theory!
