If we are offered distilled/ ionised water cheaply, for batteries, how can we test to ensure it's not tap water?

Buy from a reputable outlet e.g. Halfords?

Put a few drops on a sheet of clean glass, nothing remaining after evaporation means there's no dissolved minerals.

I bought 5ltrs of 'Carplan de-ionised' today - £3.25 from a local diy shop

i'm not sure who's offering you cheap water but i'd rather shop around and buy a brand name, compared to new batteries it's not expensive.

Tesco also sell it very cheaply in 2.5L bottles. Can't rememebr the price but I know it was a lot cheaper than buying from a garage.
