  1. Where can a POL to POL hose for decanting LPG bottles be bought please?
  2. Is there any reason we shouldn't be using a domestic cooker converted to lpg on our wide beam? Flavel specifically mentions it won't guarantee their cooker mlb51nds if used on boats (even mentions houseboats). Rona
  3. Hello there, Sorry for starting a probably well thrashed-out and potentially very stupid post, but after reading this forum and googling in general for an embarrassingly long time without gaining an understanding of what will do the trick, I'm still scratching my head. I'm doing up a 45footer and I'm after a system that will provide hot water for bath/shower, taps, a couple of little radiators for chilly mornings. I've got a little multifuel stove for heating on really cold days, and I have a morco d61 which I haven't fitted yet because I've realised I won't be able to run any radiators off it (useless, I know). I'm hoping to get a combi boiler of some sort, but the only ones mentioned on here are Alde, which appear to be in the over-a-grand cost region, which is a bit of an issue....but could be managed with a bit of saving. Would any other kind of combi boiler do, would I need anything else with it, or would a tank > pump > boiler > taps/radiators setup be functional? I've read some of the really useful guides on boat heating and water systems and I'm really impressed, I know a lot more than I did but I'm still wondering if there's a reason why you can't just buy an lpg boiler like this: http://www.mrcentralheating.co.uk/Heatline-CaprizPlus-24KW-Combi-Boiler-and-Fernox-Installers-Pack?gclid=Cj0KEQjw6pGfBRD09M-TmYTBzqIBEiQAcRzH5xtPIk5-EU3__2QYKdILCB5vKBf-3YkP9BYH3YKQ08kaApF78P8HAQ& Many thanks for your help all, and sorry again for starting a new topic on this. 4. Hello! I'm in the process of scrolling through the internet looking for an oven and I need some help. I have decided to go for a single gas oven with a separate stove, purely because it saves a bit more space. The 'caravan cookers' I've seen don't look great so I'm searching for standard domestic ovens but my problem is they all seem to have 240v grills. So does anyone know of any single ovens without the electric grill or will I have to consider a 'caravan cooker'??? Thanks!!
  5. HI All, HNY! We have a vanette oven and grill. when we bought the boat in the summer we were told by the previous owner that it needed a new thermocouple. 6 months on and i finally bought one and fitted it! Sadly though it still doesn't work!! Bugger. It doesn't matter how long I keep the button pushed in, when I release it the grill turns off. Frustrating, especially as this probably means that the thermocouple i just pulled out was still working. Does anyone have any ideas what might be the problem? The thermocouple is new so nice and clean and no fat/oil deposits. The tip of it is in the flame of the burner when it is on. Not sure what else I can do? Cheers!
  6. hi, I'm currently completing my LPG boats training at college and need a mentor to work alongside learning to practical side of installation, fault/leak finding, landlord checks and have my portfolio signed off, the mentor needs to be gas safe registered and id be quite happy to travel to work alongside you, I'm quite happy to pay towards the help you provide, and you get a free helper monkey to assist you, I'm insured through my current job and passed through the college as gas safe whilst overseen by a gas safe mentor, I'm based at a wharf in Stafford but willing to travel
  7. I'm in the market for a generator. Some may remember I'm the proud owner of a nearly new / nearly knackered set of (4x110ah) batteries. Before I replace the batteries I feel that having a 240v feed to the Victron Inverter charger would be a good way of looking after them (both as a daily bulk charge and weekly extra absorbtion charge - see I'm learning!). I know that some of you like travel power but to me that is still using the engine, and I think the engine is too expensive to wear out just charging batteries. So, I believe the only affordable option would be a suitcase generator that runs on petrol. But, I'm not that keen on messing about with jerry cans, storing petrol, paying pump prices etc. Then I saw suitcase generators that come ready lpg'd! Bingo I'm thinking. I've only scratched the surface - one company that supplies all the favourite gennies (Honda, Hyundai etc) with the lpg gizmo hooked up already. But a quick google for lpg generators brings up a lot more besides. As far as I can tell, the gas works out cheaper, you don't have to store petrol, and lpg can be picked up off the passing fuel boat or many other convenient places. The large cylinder lasts quite(?) a while. Doubtless there will be plenty of detractors. I'm very interested to hear about affordable diesel generators, or anything else really (but lets leave solar and wind to another thread). I'm wanting to spend up to 1k. I await your thoughts, experiences and musings, gentlemen (and ladies!).
  8. Hello, I've been reading the forums for a while now (since we bought our first boat about 18 months ago) but haven't posted before, as I can usually find what I'm looking for from the helpful replies on other topics. But having trawled the internet and speaking to a few people I still haven't got an answer to a couple of my questions. I'm hoping someone here might be able to shed some light. 1. Is the Bosch W11 LPG heater suitable for a narrowboat? We were recommended it, bought one (from a chandlers), and have now been told that it won't pass the BSS and aren't sure why. 2. How much have people been quoted/would quote to set up an LPG system that just powers instant water heater and hob? 3. Can anyone recommend a reliable gas-safe person in/around London who replies to emails/texts/phone calls? We've had a bit of bad luck being recommended people who have never got back in touch. Thanks in advance.
  9. Hi All, 1st time post - so hopefully I don't upset anyone I am hoping for some advice and ideally a professional opinion regarding the routing of the gas pipe on our boat. It runs down the inboard exposed surface of the gunwale, so it's possible to drop something on it, against it or even step on it. Have a look at the attached pic and tell me if I'm being over cautious! thanks for taking a look! BretttT
  10. I intent to remove my old ALDE gas boiler as I never use it but this would leave a potentially 'uneccesary' joint in the pipe work where I (for I read Corgi man) will remove the T joint and make a straight connection. Will this constitute an uneccesary joint?
  11. Having decided on lpg as the fuel source for a generator, and worked out what rating of generator I need, I'm keen to make a purchase. But I'm confused by the lpg gizmo itself. I can buy a genny already converted, with the lpg device either situated on the generator itself, or "on bottle." I'm unsure as to which would suit me best. I'd like to be able to keep the gas bottle in its locker and use some kind of connection point to hook the genny up with a hose nice and quick (so the genny can sit out on the tow path). My other alternative is to source a genny then add the lpg converter - but these seem to range from £40 up to a couple hundred, some with two main parts (a replacement carb?) some with just the diaphram shaped thing. Confusing. Am I correct in thinking that the generator could be stored inside the boat as there will be no fuel in it - or would a residue of lpg be trapped in the pipework, making it unsafe for that type of storage? I'd like to hear from anyone who has or knows about lpg generators and the associated gubbins. Thanks
  12. Hallo, We are renovating currently and in dire need of replacing the gas pipework. The current stuff has been removed but it was soldered together (!!). We have all the new pipework but just need someone qualified to fit it together, hook up our boiler and possibly convert our range to LPG (currently natural gas), although we could do this ourselves and can live without the oven for now if necessary. I'm aware there are a few threads on this topic but they're quite out of date. Cheers!
  13. Hi all, I've got a BSS cert up in March, in need of a gas safe person local to London that's used to BSS certs to install hob and cooker and check Boiler. Any Ideas. Thanks in advance Markymark
