Hi there We are looking at a narrow boat with a 300l stainless steel water tank (located in the bow I believe). This is going to be insufficient for 2 full time liveaboards. We are exploring options for extending the water capacity of the boat (ideally to reach a total of around 600l+). One idea is to add a plastic tank under the bed. Is this a good idea? Or alternatively how much is it likely to cost to add more capacity within the bow/ is this likely feasible?)

Hello Canal World. Me and my partner are heading off this week for a second viewing of the boat we have fallen for, we are total newbies so any and all tips are welcome. Of course we will be getting a full survey. A little extra info. We will be living aboard and continuously cruising around London (and anywhere else within a commutable distance). The boat has gas central heating & multi fuel stove Both pump out and cassette toilets Semi-trad BSC until 2017 Recently blackened Thanks in advance and very much looking forward to meeting some of you soon on the cut. :-)

Hi, I am looking for some advice as a lot of the research I have been doing it still slightly confusing. We are buying a narrow boat as a weekend retreat, holiday home if you like, we will still be living in our “brick and mortar home” As we are not going to live in the boat full time and it’s for leisure only, will we be able to moore up anywhere and leave it and then move it within 14 days or will we have to buy / rent a permanent mooring and this has to be the place we leave it when it’s not being used during the week? Do we get any kind of discount as it would only be an ongoing leisure mooring and not a mooring where we would live full time? Thank you

Morning everyone, Have just completed purchase of our first boat. 56' x 12 built in 2006. I intend doing a reburbishment over the coming 6 months or so but really need advice. 1st - a generator ideal for the boat but initially to run my power tools inc a Dewalt table saw. 2nd (and most important) - PLEASE, can someone recommend roughly what I should fit for solar, batteries and panels, to cover most of our needs as liveaboard continuous cruisers.. Currently have a solid fuel stove and back boiler. Would like to install oil fired boiler. Power expectations are all the usual appliances but not dishwasher. Standard fridge freezer, washing machine, TV, 12v lighting, laptops, radio......hot water and heating would be superb even if only partial. I assume being a Widebeam, roof space isn't the main issue. I've read so much it's confusing. As we live in a cloudy part of th world and the cut is shady, would amorphous panels be the better choice? I've no idea about this stuff yet. Equipment required, set up plans, where to buy, what to buy and how much to buy- would all be very helpful. I'm sorry if this repeats a previous post, and I thank you all in advance. Cheers all.

Hi everyone, We've just come off the Thames after a few months and spent a loooong day making the journey onto the canal system. Driving our extremely clumsy outboard powered widebeam (3.56m width I think) was a breeze on the Thames but I'm really not confident on the canal. We've stopped off at Greenford and would really like to venture up the Lea (we have jobs in London but they're quite flexible and we have no issues with a long commute when necessary) but I'm not sure I want to tackle central London quite yet. Is there anywhere else we can stop on the way before it gets really busy? I've read a lot of old posts about Alperton/Perivale etc but I'm not sure if this would constitute 'genuine navigation'? I'd like a couple more weeks of practice before we attempt central. Many thanks!
