  1. That’s what I had on my narrow boat, a 10kw model. Always reliable and never let me down in 8 years despite everyone saying they need to be worked hard.
  2. I had a solid piece of timber which sat across the runners. It incorporated two dead locks. When the hatch was closed the dead locks opened up into a couple of keeps on the underside of the hatch. Seemed to work well.
  3. Get the guy back who did the job.
  4. I sold the boat after that.
  5. I used Jotun in this area and touched up scratches with Hammerite smooth. You couldn't see it unless you really searched.
  6. Jotun does not fade if you use the correct type of paint. Some of their paint likes water but not ultraviolet, others like ultraviolet but not water. Speak to SML or somebody who knows about Jotun and they will ensure the paint is correctly specified. Jotun cannot be applied on top of Bitumen/single pack systems though.
  7. I've used Vactan on the welds to my roof handrail Didn't overcoat for two years and it didn't rust anymore. I also coated the galvanised chains holding the button and rear fender. These had started to go rusty. Again, no further rust. Funny how some of these materials work for some and not others!
  8. I had a rocker switch fitted below the gunwale. It never got wet and easy to operate without being on view.
  9. My mate had that orange fungal growth on his hull one time he dry docked. The guy who ran the dry dock suggested he spay the hull with bleach and leave overnight. We did this, washed again the following morning, towel dried and painted bitumen. The orange growth has never come back. Still moors at the same spot. Very weird!!
  10. To put this in perspective, I am paying £400 for gas and electric in my house PER MONTH and I dare say there are others paying a lot more. Boats are fantastic but they are not as cheap to run as some people might suggest. Hopefully the weather will warm up soon and we can go back to normal.

  13. Imagine if we all did this? Some people are disgusting, excrement down the bank??? What a lovely sight when taking a walk down the towpath.
  14. If I have to pay for three months because I’m currently moored on private water then I think that is what I’ll do.
  15. If only, I need to work. That is the reason the boat has not been used for a long time. I bet as soon as it's gone I am booking hire boats!!
  16. Fair points. For the sake of £42 for a week's licence, I'm going to licence it.
  17. Completion should be this coming Friday and the new owner wants to go out on the Saturday, theoretically, he will be the new owner if everything goes as it should. Once I know completion has taken place, I will issue the change of particulars to CaRT. As far as they know I will be the owner so no problem in me buying the week licence. If the boat was spotted on the river, I presume I would get a notification from CaRT but what else might they do? If it's going to aggravation for me or the new owner I would sooner pay.
  18. My boat is moored in a private marina so no CaRT licence required. I have had a river only licence for the past 10 years but have not used the boat on the river since the start of the pandemic. The boat is now sold, and I have been asked by the buyer if I would take him for a 2-hour cruise to show him how the boat handles etc. This is probably cheeky, and I know I probably should, but is it worth me paying for a week's CaRT licence for a 2-hour cruise. If I get seen, what is the worst that can happen?
  19. Thanks all, much appreciated.
  20. Whose responsibility is it to inform CaRT that a boat has new owners and if it’s the current owner, what information does CaRT require? I did phone CaRT yesterday but nobody came back to me. Thanks
  21. Surely this will damage surrounding paintwork?
  22. I think knock it through with a punch then drill a suitable size hole to receive a Rivnut of 5mm.
  23. Have a guess who has a charger in his engine bay. I didn’t fit it but it’s not been an issue for the last 10 years.
