  1. Disgraceful - I mean, fosters?? It was bad actually - I think it was around midnight they passed me, really lifted the boat well up in the water and then smacked me down again on the bottom. Worst I’ve experienced by far
  2. Hi Wayne - don’t know who owns it but it might be worth asking around near me at galgate, at galgate mill. There was a nb stored there for years (and may still be). It’s round the back near the glass/double glazing lock up
  3. You'd be fine on a crt mooring with car parking space within a few yards...
  4. Thanks for that Andrew - saved me making a schoolboy error, cheers!
  5. Thanks Martin - yes, that's exactlywhat I'm missing, the flush cap. I'll check on the size tomorrow but hopefully this is 2" - I was getting resigned to buying a whole unit. im convinced that it was a theft rather than my mistake - i virtually stand on it when I'm putting the chimney on, so I'm sure I would have noticed it if it was loose. cheers ian
  6. It used to be a challenge but my aim is much better these days!
  7. That's brilliant - thanks both. Can't say how annoying it was when I saw it missing, I'd love to find out who did it.
  8. I've just noticed that someone has stolen my brass filler cap off the pump out outlet pipe; I can't find one that would fit (2" male) online and I'm hoping that the reason for the theft was not that they are difficult to get...any pointers where to try?
  9. As I am the other boater tony mentioned thought I'd add an update if anyone else has had the same problem. I needed a new flue and 6" collar ( original was 4" and corroded) - I finally found someone to do it, all the way from Nantwich! Even allowing for travel expenses Paul wheeler still gave me a competitive price. Very happy with him and the quality of his work, he also serviced my engine and did some plumbing work - very happy to recommend him. Contact details paulat. piwnarrowboatservices co uk, he also has a website and Facebook page.
  10. I've admired quite a few of his boats (and lusted after 2 in particular) over the last 10 years or so. Andrew has also done my last couple of safety certs and I've been impressed by his knowledge and common sense attitude. Ian
  11. Does anyone know how this would work with the self declaration?
  12. At the same revs do you go the same speed in reverse as forward?Ian
  13. Second recommendation for john, I was very happy both with what he did and the price he charged!
  14. I think tewitfield may be the best place for you to visit! http://www.lancastercanalboatclub.org/events.php
  15. Hi Thanks - but that s the same number I have; I'll try again tomorrow but I remember struggling to get him last time. Cheers Ian
  16. Hi Has anyone found a good lpg chap that works on the Lancaster? I've got some work I need doing and am struggling to find one locally. One I have used in the past seems to have changed his number (Nell cross) and the gas safe register states boat qualified when they aren`t - any recommendations? Ian
  17. Hi I used Andrew from Brayzell Narrowboats at Garstang; very happy with the examination and he pointed out a few improvements I could make outside of the BSS.
  18. It's the first time I can recall that they have said to use the 999 number, so the incident may be very recent.
  19. Apologies if already posted - text received this afternoon from the local canal watch police service this afternoon pasted below: Horse in field Capernwray recently attacked by stabbing with downward action to shoulder. Please be aware and report suspicious activity on 101 or 999 if urgent.
  20. A few years ago I saw Rain Dog and being a huge (and at the time a little drunk) Tom waits fan treated the owners to my best Tom impersonation and sang the song to them. Seems though that they bought the boat with the name already on and kept it because their dog liked going for walks in the rain. Nice couple, they left very early the next morning...
  21. From memory, and it was 10 years ago mind, I think it wasn't absorbed by the pads that RCR gave me - didn't set fire to any though so can't answer that one!
  22. Hi I had a similar problem on a previous boat. Despite several visits by RCR they also did not identify the leak as diesel and gave up their investigations stating it was a leaking shower pump! What was confusing the issue was that there had also been a water leak some short time previously and this robbed the diesel of the usual smell etc. I eventually traced it to a fractured fuel pipe which only leaked with the engine running; easy fix when I found it (ish) but I'm afraid your problem sounds almost identical to mine. Good luck! Ian
  23. Hi No pictures or links but I can confirm it exists! It's an old established marina in the centre of carnforth, right opposite the canal turn pub. A mixture of cruisers and narrowboats, I've never heard anything bad about it. Facilities are limited, shower, loos and diesel and I'm not sure how much repair work is done there now. Cumbrian narrowboats have just started to have a presence there too.
