    Inverters

this inverter was installed by a reputable boat marina , which I assumed knew what they were doing. the chandlery supplied all the cables and the inverter and assured me that this would run everything.

    Inverters

I would like to thank everyone for the replies, I just wanted to warn other boaters about the problem.

    Inverters

it is an ordinary washing machine which we only use when hooked to land line, this still goes through the inverter and it was the cables from this supply into the inverter which melted, I have cured this by bypassing the inverter and when finished switch back to the inverter. Why it run the washer all this time I do not know, the technical department said I had been lucky it lasted so long.

    Inverters

Hi all, just want to warn boaters about having the correct inverter. When we first bought our boat about nine years ago I had a inverter fitted by a reputable boatyard who informed me it would run all our appliances ( we are live aboard ). including our washer, the inverter he fitted was a victron 800va, last week when the wife was doing the washing we could smell burning and when I checked I found the main cables into the inverter were melting and nearly catching on fire. I contacted the firm they informed me that these inverters were not up to the job I was using it for and were meant mainly for caravans. I hope this warns other boaters to check that they have the correct inverters fitted as this could have caused some serious damage. regards Buzz
  5. Hi, has anyone out won an auction for a mooring then at the of the 3 year term as been faced with a 45% increase in the yearly rent of the mooring. We bid on a mooring and paid the lower asking price then at the renewal they have asked for an increase to the guide price plus 3 year back increases, this takes the price from £2000 to £2,950. I think if this is the case it should be stated that these rises would occur on the auction site then everyone would be aware of such an increase.
  6. Thanks for the info, will call CVM, don't mind paying for short term mooring, just wanted a week or so to visit my daughter who lives in sheffield. Regards Colin
