  1. It was an 18 x 12 right hand prop
  2. Compared with some of the acts I might win something !
  3. Report post #1 Posted 3 minutes ago I have a 57ft Norton Canes boat fitted with Beta 43 engine and have suffered with a whine / squeel whenever the engine reaches around 1400pm for aorund two years now. After many learned people looked and listened it was finally diagnosed as a singing prop. The good people at Norton Canes, Glascote fettled and ground the prop and succeeded in shifting the speed at which the whining started down to 1100 rpm. Having taken advice I finally bit the bullet and ordered a new prop from Crowther which was fitted at Glascote basin. As soon as I switched on the engine and move out of the dry dock I could tell straight away that there wasa real improvement. Now, having cruised down the Coventry, North Oxford, South Oxford and the Thames I can confirm that there is absolutley no whine, the boat picks up and stops perfectly and I achieve cruising speed with lower rpm. The old prop was very prone to picking up rubbish and visits down the weed hatch were almost a daily occurance. In the last month since ther new prop was fitted I have checked the weed hatch once (more out of curiosity) and found it to be totally clear. To say I am now a fan of Crowther props would be an understatement !

  5. I replaced my Dometic Vaccuum Cassette system as it was plagued with problems. I now have a Thetford Excellence cassette and wish to goodness that I had installed it when I had my boat built. The Thetford is so easy to use and keep clean. Two of my boating pals have installed the same system and are equally delighted with it.
  6. I think the blog by Ray Oakley about his experience with fitting an Axiom prop to his narrowboat "Stronghold" makes informative reading: http://nbstronghold.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/axiom-propeller-saga.html Ispoke with Ray recently and he is still convinced and happy with the results.
  7. July 7th is an Open Day at the Byfleet Boat Club based on the River Wey. Free for members and visitors alike there will be stalls offering all things "boaty", fender maker, games, historic photos and much more. there will also be games and challenges both on the water and bankside. Live music is courtesy of the Steel Pan Caribbean band. This is a great opportunity for all those interested in boats and boating to enjoy a fun day and experience the excellent facilities that the Byfleet Boat Club has to offer.
  8. I have fitted LED based G4's throughout my new boat and am very pleased with the result. It's well worth having a chat with the guy at "bedazzeled" first to make sure you get the correct type.
  9. Many thanks for the info. We've installed the main unit in a cupboard behind the shower along with a spare cassette. I noted your comments about the activated charcoal filter - is this easy to replace?
  10. I am just about to fit a Dometic vacuum cassette loo in our new boat. Has anyone else fitted one of these and if so what was their experience of using it (not literally please !!!!)
  11. Thanks, I didn't know I was going to stir up such a hornets nest when I posted the question !!
  12. I am in the process of fitting out my new narrowboat and have been looking for a suitable tunnel light. I will not be having a cratch so will need to mount the light on to a pole. Any ideas where I can buy a reasonable brass search lamp, say 8 - 10 inch diameter?
