About Me
I was a baby boomer born on the edge of East London. As me dad worked near the Royal Albert Docks for a ship repair company and delivered the parts all over the UK in his old Dennis, my first love was boats, reading about them (Arthur Ransome etc), drawing them, looking at them, boarding the huge buggers while in port and dreaming of owning a tug. But there wasn't much scope outside this interest in this dog end of Essex so I transferred my interest to traction engines, buses, and as I grew knee high to a prat - art college, light shows, free festivals, girls, commnuty and public arts eschewing a sensible life like that bloody grasshopper n' the ants. Decades later I find myself still boatless and cashless with a terminal illness that stops any independent boating experience but I STILL LIKE BOATS. So to put my life's skills to good use via the ol' brain and computer, I help waterway trusts to be more visually professional, edit magazines, write and illustrate books and even make films about them while serving as a househusband for my working wife and dissolute daughters.
The nick name is derived from my interest in green woodturning but despite having a lathe unfortunately I can't now keep up the pace on the treadle and at some point it will be sawn up for the stove to keep us warm. Aways be positive I say.
