  1. Amen to that! Just re-wired my boat from scratch and to my dismay had to go back and run more cables for unforeseen add ons I later realised I could not live without: fuel level sender, gangway light when coming home from pub, USB socket to allow phone on navigate map when in unfamiliar territory, an additional bilge pump in the bow, map light in the cockpit. As a general rule of thumb pick the most difficult places to run power too and run cable there while the decks and bulkheads are stripped.
  2. Have to say I am disappointed in mine. I cannot get it to work on remote, I bought a replacement cable and it still did not work so I wrote to Sterling and asked for advice, detailing what I had tried. Their response was "Your remote cable is faulty" The three way main switch is ropey, it can take several attempts to get the Inverter to switch on and when left on it will sometimes sulk unless I trip the consumer unit on and off, seems to give it a jolt. It will not charge a really flat battery(s) just goes to error. On generator power the unit continually resets while charging batteries, not yet had the boat in water to test on shore supply or alternator. Switched to Auto the inverter never comes on, at least up to now using power tools, I have to switch it to Power save off to get 220V out of it. Since I am paranoid about losing power I am switching the battery charger side to a solar unit, I will keep the Sterling as an inverter only for now but the habit of going to sleep is likely to get old fast once underway and predict a short future for it on the boat. Like an idiot I ditched the packaging and apparently cannot return under the warrantry without it.
  3. I have the Bosch cordless version, it is super and with a metal cutter blade can nip of nails and small screws, but for serious wood cutting I resort to my A team, both cordless: The little circular saw is so greedy I call it my Tasmanian Devil. I just used them to chop out the cockpit deck of my Elysium 27 in a couple of hours. BTW I have no affiliation with Bosch, I just happened to come by a bunch of their batteries and bought the tools to use them
  4. Some brilliant info, thanks all, I was about to dump my oil into the bilge and fish it out with old towels now ordered an oil extractor from E Bay for £13.
