  1. Good day to you fine folks! I want to get my engine room rewired and haven't been able to find anyone that can do it, or that has time to do it. I have the engine manual with wiring diagram but I can't make up the cables so am unable to do it myself. I wondered if any of you had any recommendations please? I'm currently off the canal on hardstanding in Birmingham.

  3. Hello and thank you to all of you for your help. I've had a lot of distractions since my original post so I have not made any progress with this but am looking to crack on with it now. I have a roof collar already in place on a steel Springer narrowboat. The internal diameter of the collar is 120mm and the flue diameter is 80mm. By my understanding that means a 20mm heat proof rope will fit snugly into the gap. As for the sealant, would it be applied as an adhesive, to bond flue and rope at all points of contact? Or would I be better fitting the rope and then plugging from above and below? I made a quick video to show measurements of relevant diameters in case it helps
  4. Hello folks I hope someone can point me in the right direction with this. I've got a burner for my narrowboat, and the boat has already had a hole cut in the top to accommodate the chimney flue. My question is, once that is in place, what materials and techniques can I use to fill the gap between flue and hole? Also, should I weld the flue onto the burner's main body? Or is it adequate to just slide it on, as it is a snug fit after all? Thanks in advance!
  5. Good day to you all, thank you for reading. I have a narrowboat out of the canal on hardstanding awaiting work. I need to do some repairs on the hull and it's not been out of the water in a few years so I intend to strip it to metal under the waterline. Can anyone recommend the best tool for the job please? Also, how long roughly do I have to get the welding done and bitumen on before the elements affect the bare metal? Would you recommend ripping out the floor to treat internal rust on the hull? Thanks for any insights!

  7. I have had the misfortune of having my narrowboat sink less than 48 hours after sailing it from the seller's mooring to my own mooring. RCR raised it, plugged the hole they found under the engine and left me a new battery with an auto bilge pump. I've pumped out the oil and water cocktail, put some fresh oil in and pumped that out before putting in more fresh. I've tried with little success to drain the diesel tank with a wet vac. It will be craned out in the next few days, does anyone have any advice on how I should support it on hard standing to allow a survey and welding to take place please? And any tips on things I need to do would be appreciated too, thank you.

Hi I've been searching the threads before creating my own and I think this is a decent place to ask; I need to get my 27 foot narrowboat out of the water as it has a hole directly under the engine. does anyone have any recommendations for a crane company that can get it out of the water? I will either need it lifted out and left in the yard, or potentially lifted out and transported to a yard 2 or 3 miles from the canal. I'm moored in central Birmingham on BCN, any input appreciated.
