  1. Thanks for that Tony It does have a passing resemblance to the old one but it looks like there would be some plumbing to do with the water feed pipes. The old one you just shove the plastic water feed pipes onto the brass housing and secure with jubilee clips. That one look like you need screw in type pipes. Could you show me the type of thing you mean David ?
  2. Thanks to both of you for your input The pump is lying at the boat 30 miles away so I cannot give you actual specifics. So to save all the messing about maybe I should go down the " new " route
  3. Thanks for that I just thought I would replace like for like. I have had a look at some of the more modern offerings and they look cheap and plastic and I dont want to break the bank.
  4. Hello and thanks for reading I have just removed a stuart turner water pump no 10 from my boat used for domestic water supply. The question is how do you convert a water pump that runs on 230/240 volts to run on 12volts, can it be done ? I have owend the boat for 3 years now and I have not had any trouble with the water pump until now. I was looking on fleabay for a replacement and found this, the exact same pump I removed. Can it be done and how ? Because someone seems to have done it . Thanks for taking the time to read and I hope somebody could point me in the right direction.
  5. Thanks Mac Thats quite a list of pubs ! ! ! We`ll be sure to try them !
  6. Thanks again for the info I think we`ll book it and give it a try, why not ? It`s only money ! ! ! We are going to rent sundancer from bridge boatyard at Ely just because she reminds us of our own boat but she is a bit bigger than an ormelite ! ! ! Do you know of any good chippies, where you can get scraps (or fish bits ) on top of your chips ? We love a good chippie ! ! One more thing It looks as though you cannot navigate into cambridge, unlike Norwich. Is it a good walk or a taxi into cambridge from the final mooring spot ?
  7. Thanks to both of you for the replies, sorry I have not got back to you sooner but I`ve had to do the W word this afternoon. I have had a look on google maps at the area and some of it looks very desolate especially up towards denver lock. It looks as though all the pubs, shops and all the fun stuff seems to be towards Bedford and cambridge. So my next question is this - Is there plenty of water points, pump out facilities and refuse desposal ( bins ) down there ? Having 2 weeks down there you`ve got to think of these things ! ! ! As a matter of interest loddon or chedgrave was the start of many enjoyable holidays for me and our Maude ( maude is a name for a girlfriend where I come from just like a sheila in Australia ) with pacific cruisers. But alas they seem to have sold our favourite boat, pacific moonlight so hence we are looking for another boating experience
  8. Thanks for that Naughty Cal I`ve seen that pub on the " maps " app and it looks good. We`ll be sure to visit. Are the locks down there manual or as we hope automatic ?
  9. Hello all I am thinking of planning a 2 week holiday on the great river ouse system, using bridge boatyard at Ely as the start point. I have never been on the river ouse but I have been to the Broads many many many times ! ! I have also a boat on the shropshire union, so I think I know my way round a boat, well just a little bit ! ! The reason for this post is to pick the brains of you all and to ask if there is any nice places to eat, DRINK ! ! ! , visit and to dangle a line for the odd unfortunate fish ! ! ! Any tips or info would be of great help. Looking forward to hearing from you all and many thanks for reading.
  10. Yes there is a gauze filter inside the fuel pump It is brand new , so is the fuel pump. I see where you are comming from with the glass bowl but like all good " tinkers " I have not thrown the old pump away and I`ll replace the glass bowl with the brass bowl at the weekend.
  11. Yes the brass bowl is the same dimentions as the glass one. What is the problem with bss and glass bowls ?
  12. Hello again Yes I`m back, not with a problem, just looking for advice. As you may or may not know I have been having problems with gearbox output flange, sheered bolts and the like. Well that is all sorted now ( touch wood ) but I did notice the fuel pump was leaking a little and thought I would replace it. I contacted a company in north walsham called small ford parts and bought a new fuel pump ( they were very good by the way) I fitted the new fuel pump to the wortham blake converted ford anglia 105e engine and the difference in performance was staggering ! ! ! No poping and banging, no pause for the fuel to get to the carb and no throttle lag. In short she feels like a new boat ! ! ! The advice I am looking for is - the fuel pump I replaced had a blue hammerite painted brass bowl and the new pump has a glass bowl. What is the difference ? ? Oh and the new pump has no primer lever under it will it make any difference ? Hope to hear from you soon All the best johnny nosh
  13. Hello all As promised, here is an update. The flange came off, had the old bolt drilled out and re fitted the flange and all the other gubbins. I let her idle for 20 mins then took her out for a little trip down and back along the cut for about an hour and she did`nt fall apart ! ! ! Time was getting on, so the plan this weekend is to just tweek everything up and take her out again. Thanks once again for all the helpful tips and general banter. All the best johnny nosh
  14. IT`S OFF ! ! ! I have done it ! ! ! I used a cut down bolt and a wheel nut from a 1974 Hillman hunter gls ( the one with twin dc0e40 webbers and a holbay engine ) to spread the extraction force evenly. I put the cut down bolt between the output shaft and the prop shaft, placed bolts though the prop shaft flange into the output flange and tightend. Nothing happened for a while, then CLICK the output flange started to move. It took a while but the flange came out ! Leaving the woodruff key in the output shaft and no great GUSH of gearbox oil. Now all I have to do is get the sheered bolt drilled out and retapped ! ! ! Thanks again for the hints and tips and the info. I`ll update you all with my progress All the best Johnny nosh
