Eh up all, We recently left our mooring to travel to a dry dock we had hired so we could black the boat’s bum and a few other jobs, and have a bit of a jolly for a couple of weeks travelling. It was not to be as we unfortunately broke down on the first lock on the Keaby due to overheating. The call out chap thought it might be a leaking skin tank as couldn’t see water anywhere, so told us to limp to his boat yard. Due to his hols we left the boat there and picked it up this week. It wasn’t the skin tank, might have been an airlock, and he replaced a couple of hoses, new oil switch, and checked the valve clearances as the engine is noisy. This all cost a fortune so we can’t afford to get the boat out of the water for a while. One thing he did say was it needed a new stern tube and prop shaft, as a lot of water was coming in. We had both these replaced and new engine bolts only 2 years ago, and haven’t done a lot of mileage since. Any ideas why these should need replacing so soon?
