  1. Just rang Saga are stopping new customers as of tomorrow[April 1st] existing policy holders will remain insured until renewal date. Policy holders will be informed nearer to renewal date as to options closer to renewal. Option is get insured else where.
  2. Find this post very interesting, if i understand this right a suitcase generator will do the same as a shoreline hook up regarding charging your battery bank ? or is the idea of a generator[say a Honda EU20I/22I] when away from shore power to provide power to use lights, tv, radio or other elec appliances ? or is the generator used as a power source for the battery charger to charge the battery bank ? there by providing the power from charged batteries. This may seem obvious to most on here but i would have thought there is a large power spike when charger is turned on especially if battery bank levels are low ? Would be very interested to know as was thinking about a genny and would like to know how a genny is used on board.
  3. no afraid i have not received any emails from foxs[yes they do have email address]. didn't see notice in window. i received a letter from Foxs advising me that marina was closed at start of lockdown in March, the letter also advised me that as i was not a resident boater i was not allowed access to boat or marina unless by arrangement with office by phone and at no time to go to office or approach any staff, contact was strickley by phone only. So i did not go to boat until a short day visit at end off lockdown and then 5 days two weeks ago. I was not off work at all during the lockdown either through illness[covid] or company instructions, indeed i was very quickly classed as a 'essential worker' being a LGV Driver in the food manufacturing industry and was working up to 6 days a week, all B/Holidays etc, so i didn't have any opportunities to go to boat/marina even if i was permitted to, until i read this post was unaware this had got this far, indeed spoke to resident boaters while i was there and no mention of this. As i understand it's not been though 'Due Legal Process' so how can it be implemented and enforced. you say you payed in March which seems odd as if there was so much confusion ie; no clarity, lack of direction from MLC, and dare i say it Covid, i personally would have left it to MLC to at the very least clarify this whole matter before contemplating any monies changing hands. I do feel Firesprite that paying as early as you did was not the best thing to do, i fully understand why MLC is doing this but let's not do it for them then just maybe it might encourage MLC to approach the whole matter again correctly and much more clearly and not in this seemingly half hearted manner that implies to me MLC are not really fully behind this 100% and are lacking direction and commitment, which doe's not look good for us boaters it affects, indeed could this be the start of the end to The Levels as we know and love.
  4. Not me, was working and staying on boat for 5 days two weeks ago. Went into the office twice spoke to Tracy no mention of licencing or saw any signs, Was even given new moorings renewal no reference to licence at all. reading this post is all that i know about it suspect i'm not alone.
  5. Think you have the answer in your post, the price is the problem. the seating area has a lack of seats[sorted at more expense] plus other items require attention[and expense] in my opinion. These Northwich Trader style of tug do command rather high prices though, but do think this is on the high side, location doe's not help, but there are buyers who would consider/buy at this price, not me personally.
  6. Sad to see demise of EBC was told locally that father & son business, father retired son ran business, not as business minded as father so goodbye EBC.[this is local gossip] will be missed locally as not much in the way of boating outlets in these parts.
  7. original post was for 12v charger, don't know why you assumed 230v ?
  8. Just go on Amazon/fleabay type in 12v charger for name & model of laptop/notebook etc, details will reveal a multitude of items at varying prices & quality, select and enjoy,. Simples
  9. For what it's worth I would be inclined to back of informing the seller you need more time before committing to deal, then seller no longer calling shots you are. If seller genuine will keep in touch with you because I suspect you are there only interested buyer. As last posted by you tenancy issues are not your problem, he say's he is busy[ er' you can be busy to'] I think you are right he want's everything his own way. So back of and grab the metal to be in control. Just one more thing there will be other boats come along that will suit your requirements I guarantee just wait.
  10. would strongly recommend looking at state of the Nene at present, been a fair bit of rain recently.

  14. Contact Jim Perkins on his web site http;//www.petterengines.co.uk/index.html . He is ex Petter engineer very knowledgeable & helpful, I think he will answer all your questions & identify the engine for you.
  15. The Morso Squirrel & Villager Chelsea both are available with a clip in boiler at extra cost, about £200+

  17. Yes a more square shaped stove fit's corner installation better. Chelsea stove top over protrudes about 3/4 to 1in and if you catch it with leg when passing will hurt.
  18. Got ecofan of t'nternet 4 years ago £35
  19. if you are Chelsea fitting in the bow might have to install at an angle in corner as stove is 18ins W x 13ins D. just measured as at home, don't know Squirrel dimensions, but know it's not as wide.
  20. I might be able to help you here, I have a Chelsea brought from same supplier about 5-6yrs ago. First I brought stove delivery excellent[4 days,] is installed in my house, got clip in boiler as well[2wks delivery]. it heats one rad in b/room & small towel rad & heats water. performance is very good use semi smokeless[Burnwell] & wood[has multifuel grate] no problem keeping fire in 24hr am very pleased, think you will find rating is 'up' to 5kw. One gripe is airwash is not very efficient, but just clean glass in morning when emptying grate & done, ashpan sufficient for 24hr use, empty grate once a day. Have a Squirrel on boat had boat 11yr works very well good heat & 24hr use easy, did overhaul 3yr ago, new flue, glass, fire bricks, sealing rope & repaint, no boiler as no rads, as boat is trad have b/mans stove in rear cabin. Find Morso sufficient for heating boat, do use fan on top at times and it doe's move heat to rear, but stove is 10' from front of saloon so more central installation is to my mind a big plus. As to which is best must admit am well pleased with both stoves, main difference being price & difference between cast & steel, have had no trouble with Morso cracking[stove was on boat when purchased so don't know age]. you do know you can buy refurbished Morso stoves, friend of mine got one & no problems. in my opinion both stoves are good for boat use, both give excellent heating qualities.
  21. would like to just move topic slightly. NMEA, Got a query for you my D4 Ebber has exhaust with long round silencer fitted, is length and positioning,[bends] important? am thinking of moving exhaust, possibly sharper bends and altering length.
  22. Well I must say didn't realize George had been so upset, must have had a bad Thursday[when thread started] Saturday seem's to not been very good either. another candidate for the 'Dark Net'
  23. Have just read your post Athy, been to Silverstone via the wonders of digital tv. yes I agree with you about modest pricing of working boats. It is not only working boats older boats with engine room/boatmans seem to have a ceiling price also, when I brought my boat [11yr ago] these types were in high demand not now it seams, very niche is the words used nowadays. Have been told by people in the business that buyers are increasingly coming from the caravan/camping fraternity and with this is the requirement for all home comforts of a modern layout hence the increase in demand for these types. Whatever rocks your boat really. May be this has something to do with the reason for this thread being started, wouldn't it be nice if we could all get on, but that's the way it is i'm afraid. 'No persons or animals were intended to be upset or offended by this post'
  24. Ah welcome to the world of boating, as I found when I entered this strange world 11yrs ago, what you must not do is be in a hurry[god forbid], there is a culture called 'canal time' which once you recognize and embrace it it's slow progress but progress.
