  1. Yahooooo!!!!!........ at last finaly managed to get it working tried the fuse removal and no change, easystart T arrived and tried all day to get it working but was having no luck, was begining to wonder if there was a problem with the heater. Decided to try a few different configurations in the C1 sub menu(even thou the configurations didnt seem to apply to my heater), still no luck, went back to the C1 menu i originally had and.......off it went , fired up good style!... still not sure what it was i did.... but its working so im happy enough... phew!... been a long road lol! Have to say its running a bit smokey though, but maybe thats because its still new, otr maybe its because the exhaust and silencer i have connected to it is from an old one and hasnt been used for some years, so maybe coked up a bit. will know once iv had it running for a while. And comparing the easystart timer and the easystart T , I still cant work out what the difference is, both say they are for hydronic II heaters, but the easystart T seems to work( by sending 9.4v through the blue/white wire) yet the easystart timer doesnt seem to be able to start it at all. No doubt someone out there may be able to shed some light of that matter. steve
  2. Hi matty , thanks for your input, yes a gsm controller is something i was looking at before i ended up going down the road of this timer thing, and to be honest a method i would prefer and will be looking at as soon as i get the eber working. is your eber a D5Z-H too? which gsm controller did you buy? can you tell me which colour wires on the eber you had to connect to which colour wires on the gsm controller? steve
  3. Hi Rob Soz for late reply , Iv had an hectic week and had no free time to play with the eber again as yet, thou i did bite the bullet(yet another one lol) and ordered an easystart T timer same as yours from germany(bout half the price there.... so much for this european one market thing!) and it should be arriving any day now. Though thinking about what you just said, you may have a point. Iv been trying to get mine working rigged up in the garage, via a temporary fused loom clipped directly to a battery when i need power, so power enters timer and eber all at the same time( as i connect the + crocodile clip). To reset the timer your supposed to remove the 5amp(timer) fuse and then replace it. Iv been just removing the +crocodile clip instead , hence removing power to the eber at the same time, and re-booting everything all at once when i re-apply power. Now youve mentioned it, and thinking back to a webasto i rigged up some time ago you are supposed to retain power to the heater and only remove timer fuse to reset the timer. As soon as i get a minute i will have to give it a try see how it goes. Will be in touch as soon as iv managed to blow the roof off the garage! steve
  4. good to know your dads feeling better mate, Tried all the obvious stuff mate, tried with the grey/black wire too(think thats just a light though as its a dotted line on the manual described as optional), tried a few configurations, few i haven,t tried at this stage as i dont want to take the risk of blowing anything. Good of you to offer to exchange for testing purposes mate, may yet take you up on it if i dont manage to sort things. How did you come to the conclusion it was an easystart "T" controller you needed to make it start? did you see it on a manual somewhere or? Hope to get time to have another go at it at the weekend will let you know how i get on steve oh forgot to ask.... did you manage to suss out what the difference is between as easystart timer that i have and the easystart "T" which you have?
  5. fun and games...yea tell me about it!... think i read somewhere on one of the posts about people ending up spending more money trying to get these car heaters working than it would of cost them to buy the proper kit......that thought is beginning to dawn on me! Either way, in to deep now to turn back , just have to soldier on and hope to get it sorted , probably by summer at this rate lol! Yea tried the wiring sequence you describe rob, but think the problem is as i said my controller is an easystart timer no. 22 1000 34 15 00 , as opposed to the one you used which i now realise was an easystart T no. 22 1000 32 88 00 Im not sure what the difference is between to two timers(apart from cosmetic) been trying to look up technical spec to compare them, but im beginning to wonder if the easystart T sends out bus signals (which I believe these heaters need in order to activate) and maybe the easystart timer which I have doesn,t send out bus signals. The controller I have states its for hydronic ll heater but doesnt list the particular model we have. Does the easystart T list our model of heater rob? off to do a bit more digging about before i end up throwing even more good money after bad me thinks. Hope your dad gets well soon mate Steve
  6. Hi Rob, Thought i would post on here seeing as its more in keeping with the topic than it was with the gsm thing. Bought an eber same as your and wired it to the easystart same way as you have ... and.... nothing! Just says "int" and then "no signal".. same as it was doing with the other eber i had. though i now realise that you have an easystart T , the one i have is an easystart timer no. 22 1000 34 15 00 thought an easystart t and an easystart timer was the same thing, appears they are different(not sure in what way as mine says its for and hydronic ll heater. Wondered if anyone would know how to run a hydronic ll-H (D5Z-H) heater off an easystart timer? plug pin out is ; pin1=brown- ,pin2=green fuel pump, pin3=blue ,pin4=blue/white ,pin5=red+ ,pin6=black/red, pin7=blue/yellow ,pin8=yellow regards steve
  7. Soz to hear about your dad rob, hope he gets well soon as can be expected. seems you have the water pump scenario well in hand anyway, let me know how you get on as iv now got myself a D5Z-H same as yours and hope to find time to try wiring it up in the next day or two , hopefully will work wired to the easystart as you have described. Regards the D5WS , yea i tried it how you mentioned, tried a few possible scenarios, trouble is its not a standard d5ws its a mercedes one, off a 906 sprinter, found a diagram for it that indicates the yellow wire you mention is the + power to the wasserpumpe(as the germans put it) and the timer wires are the four wires on the separate plug. As NMEA said, its a lottery as to whether you can make it work off the vehicle or not, so iv given up on that one, already wasted far to much time on it. Sorry if iv led this topic away from the GSM remote thing guys, im certainly interested in all the comments regards GSM control and will be looking to purchase a GSM control as soon as i get over the first hurdle.......and get this eberbastard fired up! Regards Steve
  8. actually rob when i think about it..... your heater is designed to be a car heater i believe, so one of the pins on the eight pin heater plug will be configured to give power to a relay for the vehicle fan and or vehicle water pump when the heater turns on, it may well have built in timer off delay feature too. Use a meter to see which pin gives out power when the heater is on, and check if it also has an overrun feature too. You should be able to run a relay to your water pump from that terminal all been well. Good luck with it mate Steve
  9. just managed to view the link..... doesnt mention what temperature range it operates between... just to make you aware some maplin stuff come in kit form... and you have to solder all the components in yourself.... had that before myself. Try to post you the link to the eber site but it wont let me, basically its on the eberspacher uk site, easystart timers, the tech. spec. page 36 Hope you manage to sort it. steve
  10. Hi rob, yea i just wanna use it to run heating and calorifier basically, im familiar with the d5 series(not the mercedes ones) so know what i need is well within its capabilities. Was really more interested in how easy it was to wire up and how well it runs really , which both seem to be ok from what youve said, so think i may go out and find myself one. Regards wiring up a water pump heres a possible solution.... if you go to the eber site and find the diagrams for different wiring configurations for the easystart, then look up the configuration for easystart timer with" button connection for auxiliary heater" , you could use the pin 5 wire to relay power to a water pump or alternatively instal the button connection as shown(if required) and use the pin 6 yellow wire to relay power to water pump. Also you will need and overrun timers relay(2 mins i think but check on the eber site for details)as the water pump has to continue running for a short while after the heater is turned off to disperse heat and avoid damage to the heater.Relays are available on ebay. Hope that helps mate .. couldnt open the maplin link so havent been able to view that as yet steve
  11. Hi rob soz didnt see that link it was on the next page. That is the model of heater yes but its a different version(the long number after the model number) , mine is a mercedes sprinter version and has a different ecu and different wiring (two looms , one 8 pin other 4 pin) altogether. Basically its configured so if you need or want anything doing to the heater you need to go to the main dealer. Lots of heaters have the same model number but different version numbers(hence different ecu s) depending on what vehicle they are intended for.. and unfortunately for me mercedes are as bad for playing about with wiring configurations as eber are just to make you dependant on them!...... germans eh!.... lol steve
  12. Hi again guys, Well tried all the different configurations given on the eberspacher site for easy start timers and still get the same response "int" and then "no signal" Had a fish about on a couple of the sprinter forums regards these heaters and its seems from what i gather on there that to get these heaters to work independently of the vehicles can system they have to be unlocked and reprogrammed via the vehicles ecu by an authourized mercedes dealer using star diagnostics system ..phew! ....sounds far to complex and expensive!!! Think i will give up on that one! Do you recomend one of these D5Z-H heaters on ebay rob? sounds ok from what iv heard ! To recap; Its just a matter of red to positive, brown to negative, green to fuel pump (then fuel pump to earth),blue wire from heater to data signal wire on easy start timer(blue/white wire) Then a matter of relaying power to water pump and incorporating an overrun timer relay on the water pump side ? obviously observing necessary fuses etc in wiring system on the way...... and thats it? ... up and running yea? If thats the case , think i may just as well invest in one of those and save myself a lot of headache steve
  13. well tried the easy start as you suggested rob and got the message "int" and then "no signal".It was the same when i tried blue wire(pin 6) to blue/white controller as when i tried blue/white wire (pin 5)to blue/white on controller. So no luck there... as you said NMEA... its a case of pot luck. Found the eber site that gives easy start wiring configurations for different water heaters including vehicle auxiliary heaters, so gonna have a play about as soon as i get some time..... seems scanning through them that my heater could possibly be a type that doesnt have a wire for eberspacher diagnostics, .. would sound about right for mercedes as they like to play about with wiring configurations just as much as eber seem to do. If all else fails may end up buying one of those d5w-h heaters that you have rob, seems to be working well enough for you and there's lots of them selling cheap enough on ebay at the moment. Just a case of rigging up a water pump with a overrun timer relay it seems. Thanks for you help guys will keep you posted. steve
  14. Thanks for that information NMEA, not exactly what i wanted to hear but along the lines of what i expected may be a distinct possibility. Wish id of read it before i ordered my easy start timer though. Oh well i guess i will just have to wait till it arrives and see how it works out, at least i wont be banging my head against the wall if it doesnt start i will have a good idea why...... I believe the timer has diagnostics on it , so maybe it will tell me why anyway.. though then again maybe not, if its not compatible with that particular ecu, although it does state works with D5WS and all hydronic 11 heaters... time will tell i guess. Thanks again guys steve
  15. opps last minute addition , iv just come accross a diagram that shows pin 5 attached to CAN-high and pin 6 attached to CAN-low sounds like they are wired to the vehicles ecu... would that have a bearing on trying to wire it independantley in a boat? also shows the wires on the four pin plug attached to a switching device of some sort and two of those wire attached to a radio remote control TP 43i would be grateful for any further advice steve
