  1. Thanks all, this gives a clear direction. Actually debris in the fuel tank might be a very good explanation: the water drain valve is clogged since a couple of weeks as well. I wasn't thinking of this because the fuel filter is always filled and not full with dirt. It will be quite a shitty job though, cleaning out the tank... @moominpapa I don't suspect the air intake, it's a typical small hole in the brass filler cap, which is not blocked. Again, thanks all, I'll keep you posted is this hasn't solved the problem.
  2. Hello everyone, This spring you guys really helped me out finding a gearbox for my Coventry Victor WD3. We've had a great summer with our boat: we made a lot of trips and the engine has been running great. The only thing is, when I run the engine at a higher speed, say 3/4, for a longer time, it stalls for a longer or short amount of time. Slowing down the engine for a while helps, but after a certain amount of time running at 3/4 it stalls again. I cleaned the filters, fuel lines and injector, but the problem still appears. Do you have any idea what could help to solve this problem?
  3. A final update from me! After the gearbox was installed, the boat was put back into the water again. Unfortunately the reverse gear was slipping... The brake band could be adjusted easily though and the reverse gear is running now (although be it with quite some noise... the reverse hasn't been used for more than 30 years... hopefully the lubircation will fix this during the season). What is interesting for this forum: With the documentation of my boat: I found an old document with running instructions for this "Perfecta No. 2 Reduction and epicyclic geabox". I don't know if the brand "Perfecta" has any meaning, or was just used by Coventry Victor. Nevertheless, the running instructions could be interesting. They can be downloaded here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5ahEBIMSYI-Q3FXSkE3NG9KelU/edit?usp=sharing Thanks again for all your help! Jaap Jan
  4. Hereby an update of my quest to find a gearbox for my Coventry Victor WD3: I was about to have the 'guts' from Richards BMC type A shipped to The Netherlands, hoping transplanting them into mine would work. Then a CV WD2 with gearbox became available... The WD2 has the exact same gearbox as the WD3. We almost have it fully installed. Only some adjustments need to be made on the flanges so the prop shaft can be connect correctly. Hereby some pictures: My cover plate near the flying wheel has a cutout for the dynastart, it is mounted on the 'new' gearbox. Connected with the engine again
  5. Thanks Richard, We measured it: the inside diameter seems about the same: 14.22 cm, which I converted to 5.59". Here some more pictures and measurements of the 'oily bits': and the casings: Does that look alike?
  6. Thanks all for all the help untill so far, it proves to somewhat more difficult... @Richard: I'll try to get some pictures and measurements of the gears axes etc. Some more pics that might help with the idenitification The cover plate of the flying wheel! Top view A further look inside!
  7. Ok, I have more info of mine: The gearbox itself is 37 cm, from the flywheel housing to the flange (so including the reduction).lengthwise box A comes pretty close it seems... But now the top view, this looks somewhat different... What do you guys think, this is yet another type...?
  8. Thanks Richard! I first thought it absolutely was the B-series box, some extra pictures of mine make me doubt again... We'll measure it later, but what do you guys think?
  9. Thanks bizzard! This way I'm learning more and more :-). @all The contact who might have the box here in NL is somewhat late with responding, so I'll have to search for alternatives as well. Do you guys know if the BMC or Newage boxes were installed with other engines than with Lister Petter PH series? Thanks
  10. What I meant is the chain reduction. I am wondering if the gear-version gives the same reduction ratio as the chain version does. By the way, a closer inspection learned that 'everything with cogs' in the box is really worn, including the main shaft, and needs to be replaced. We might have found a box in The Netherlands though. The suggestions given on this forum have already proven to be very helpfull, thanks for that. If the one here isn't right, there still seem hope for me to find one in the UK!
  11. Thanks all! Your help is already overwhelming! What I find somewhat difficult is to determine this actually is the right box. Especially the chain gear at the prop shaft end seems different from both the CV engine mentioned by Keiron (no chain gear in this picture, also another CV engine than mine... ). Also the BMC boxes attached to the Petter engines seem to have a smaller chain gear. Now this isn't the biggest problem: the chain gear is ok. But will the rest fit. Anyone have experience in this?
  12. Thanks Tim! It does indeed look it, although the casing for the chain gear seems smaller... I am currently investigating with Richard of Primrose Engineering whether it is a BMC A or B series. Thanks! It might be a very good option actually (and easier to ship than a complete gearbox...). Do the gears look anything like in this exploded view? https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5ahEBIMSYI-OFJhZmlaX25LNW9vS3NWN2tvX25sNDJWMFdr/edit?usp=sharing
  13. Thank you both for the quick responses. @David: I just sent e-mail to Richard, hopefully he knows something @Tim, thanks as well: this widens the search!
  14. Hello, I am new to this forum. I recently bought a really nice boat, a vintage dutch pusher from the 1930's. It's equipped with a Coventry Victor WD3 engine. The gearbox is stuck and replacing the lamellae unfortunately is not enough: the gears are really worn out. Looking for parts hasn't been really succesfull yet, so I am also looking for a replacement gearbox. Does anyone here happen to have an old but working WD3 gearbox that's just waiting to be placed back in a boat again? Any tips? I am aware of this website http://www.coventryvictor.free-online.co.uk/ but I haven't been able to contact them yet. It would be a pity if I had the replace the full engine. Any other ideas would be very appreciated. Kind regards, Jaap Jan -- +316281449 8
