  1. Artists impression of what it looked like. As was said above the Roundhouse still exists although the canal bank is now a lot higher.
  2. The other option is either Droylsden or Ashton as both have good Metrolink services to the Etihad
  3. Will have a closer look when I go that way later on in May.
  4. According to the planning permission (30th April 2019) 3 years were allowed for the start. The site was aquired by developers, CB Collier Management Ltd. in 2022 and according to their website they state We have now made a meaningful start on site to activate the consent, including; utility diversions, access improvements and site investigations. Wedgewood Marina Development
  5. Is this the one? Just found the details, it is classed as Wedgewood Marina in Barlaston. Application was orginally made in October 2015 and passed on 30th April 2019 with the provisio that a maximum number of boats be 141 and no permanent moorings for residential purposes. Last document on the palnning permission is dated April 2022, so finer detail is still dragging on. Stafford Borough Council Planning Application 15/22013/FUL Trent And Mersey Canal Land Adjacent Old Road, Barlaston, Staffordshire Formation of canal marina and associated facilities including marina reception/facilities building, redistribution of material to form canal basin, car parking, access and associated works
  6. Liverpool was indeed in 1968 at the Stanley Docks branch. I was a volunteer at that event in the communications marquee, long days and short nights. Also attended the Marple one in 1966 as a member of the Peak Forest Canal Society doing bits and peices around the rally site. Don't remember any of the rally glasses although at that time the only glasses I was interested in contained beer.
  7. Not the best example to use. That is an official passing point on the Llangollen narrows
  8. Very similar to Chester where a welshman found within the walls after midnight can be shot with a bow and arrow
  9. If Cheshire West and Chester council are anything like Cheshire East, any application for planning within around a 1000 metres of the canal will involve the council planning to automatically inform CRT of the application and ask them for comments.
  10. A little bit of misinformation there. The pub is actually owned by the Stonegate Pub Group who are the largest pub group in the UK with around 4,500 pubs. The current (new) leaseholder is the Nomad Wine Company whose registered office is in Stoke on Trent. They also run a hospitality business and also own No.63 Cafe & Wine Bar alongside the canal in Market Drayton. Don't forget the pub has a manager as well and I would presume he would live in.
  11. Same goes for the Peak District National Park especially since the 1932 trespass protest

  15. I have yet to be convinced that they are mass produced with grooves in them. I travel the Shroppie quite a lot during the course of a year and have never found two the same. Maybe some enterprising person could take a clear photo of each bridge as they pass them. Will consider that myself next year as I will do the length of the Shroppie from Barbridge to Autherley several times.

    Marple Flight

Latest news today from CRT is that Lock 7 is not expected to be opened until April 2024 at the earliest Update on 11/10/2023: Our teams are currently in the design phase for the repair to Lock 7, Marple Flight. Whilst we are currently unable to advise when the lock flight will re-open at this stage, it is unlikely that navigation will resume before Easter 2024. We appreciate this is disappointing news, the works to repair the lock are substantial, however our teams will endeavour to advance on this timeframe. In the meantime, our local team, with the help of our volunteers, have completed vegetation works along the lock flight and we are reviewing what further works we can do over the winter to make the most of the extended closure. We will continue to provide updates as soon as we know more.

    BCN weed

Don't worry I won't, although what a Cambridge pub has to do with the BCN I fail to realise.

    BCN weed

Not so sure I would be entering a pub that uses plastic pots.
  19. Should be no reason not to wind after manual Lift Bridge 22, CRT notification for Bridge 24 does not state the winding holes available each side.
  20. Shroppie will never close because of lack of water unless the good folk of Wolverhampton stop using their toilets.
  21. The Graphic Boat does a wide range of numbers with the full range of logos from over the years, although they all appear to be stick on graphics. https://www.thegraphicsboat.co.uk/narrowboatgraphics/boat-index-numbers.html
  22. Announced today that the closing date has been delayed until 31st July. Hopefully it may be extended further.
  23. I like the Cheshire locks, going uphill they can be quite fierce for the unwary but nudging the cill works well (water leakage permitting). After a trip to Stone now on the downhill run to Middlewich and it is a pleasure.
  24. Update Today, does not bode well for the rest of Summer. As a result of the current and forecasted dry weather and the continuing repair works at Toddbrook Reservoir, we are implementing some further restrictions to support continued navigation across the Macclesfield & Peak Forest canals this summer. To help manage and ensure a sustained water supply for as long as possible, we need to further restrict the use of the lock flights from Monday 19 June 2023. Our teams of volunteers will be onsite to oversee passage and to help conserve as much water as possible. From Monday 19 June 2023, the following operating times will apply: Bosley Lock Flight – open Sundays and Thursdays Open from 8:30am to allow passage through the flight. Last boat entry to the flight will be at 1pm, and all boats must have exited the flight by 4pm. Marple Lock Flight – open Tuesdays and Saturdays Open from 8:30am to allow passage through the flight. Last boat entry to the flight will be at 12 noon, and all boats must have exited the flight by 4pm.
  25. Fortunately not 😄but there are a couple of faces I recognise and certainly the film did bring back good memories of the event.
