  1. Hi the one i bought is brilliant, cant remember name but look on ebay small thin black oblong with magnetic base for boats caravans etc, think its was around 40-50£
  2. Hi all yeh mine is not starting first time in this weather..wondered i f i need antifreeze wqould that help?
  3. Hi Paul Ive been ccing in London since the end of August. I dont know where you need to be but I keep well away from victoria park, in the whole Hackney vicinity there has been a spate of armed robberies.Check out London boaters forum for updates. If you can stay on outskirts,Ive found they have much more of a peaceful and a rural feel, the further in you go the more you find the tow path used by all kinds of characters, one night I had people rowing drunkenly at 1.30pm in morning for at least an hour!!!!My boat has sdouble glazed doors at front which keep in heat and have a good lock. Good luck, make sure you sort out adequate heating throughout boat....had a rayburn put in with rads best thing i did!! Can anyone give me more info on mud weights?
  4. Exchanged today at last and get keys to boat friday wahoooooooooooooo ...see you guys out there!!!!!!!!
  5. Thanks people! Just bought low energy bayonets couldnt find any led hope thats ok!!Why fluorescent?
  6. Hi all Could I have some advice if poss on lamps from house shall i just get rid of them, are they too much of a drain on battery?Same applies to normal stereo before I sort out something thats 12v, should i take on the boat or give away? Thanks guys!!
  7. Wooooo!Congrats!I!!m still waiting to exchange:((
  8. Cool.. video sounds interesting...right must get on with packing!
  9. Aaaaaaw thankyou everyone!! Could relate to Captain Golightly...yes I am the kind of person that pushes the button...restless spirit!!!The idea of living in a boat in the uk seemed to be the perfect solution..to staying close to family and friends and still satisfying the travelling bug!Wishing you all well..and happy boating to fellow newbies!
  10. Hi Dean i think i met you at Roydon marina once am i right?Looked at your widebeam for sale?Ending up with 70' narrowboat instead! MMMmm...nerves i guess its the total change in everything...think biggest thing possibly is change in space....carbooted loads, giving away a lot too....totally into the closeness to nature, seasons etc and obviously moveable aspect is a massive plus....locks freaking me out slightly at mo...just need to get experience i know.. Aaaaw thankyou deckhand your absolutely right..and thats exactly why im doing it!! Happyboating to you too!
  11. Also..been a toss up between two boats first one kinda dropped out for awhile but back in picture, the main negative with that is..bedroom is a walk through between 2 living spaces which obviously creates more living a positive but doesnt give me a quiet separate area to sleep in(have 2 dogs now 2,i could put swing half doors there to block off at night maybe curtains..any other design ideas welcome!!!)sep living spaces obv good from a dog perspective too i think..eg i could work at one end and they could be at other if i need quiet time!
  12. sorry not 'Living afloat', for anybody that wants more info in book form vv good 'The Liveaboard guide' Tony Jones.(adlard coles nautical, bloomsbury publishing) I think Living afloat was another not v informative read! llol,thanks..I'll look forward to that
  13. Hi I just thought I would share my freak out moment with all you people! About to exchange on my house and buying a boat, had a total panic attack about it last night although much calmer now.Ive done loaaaads of research, including being on here. Also various books including 'Living afloat' (vg book, positive and negative!)Narrowboat maintenance manual etc, lived on a very small cruiser in France with x and steered boat through Camargue even the Rhone...still v nervous!! Any reassurances, soothing welcome!!!!!
  14. Thanks for your invaluable advice does have a good fitout but ultimately its 25 years old, builder registered unknown. I was initially seduced by all the bits being left but dont think their value is huge.
  15. Thankyou people, will try and get name of builder!Re; 70' yes I know limited in where it can go..though less limited than widebeam which is what I was looking at originally..just feel I need the space...that may change once I've lived aboard for awhile,I am aware of that!
