I pass by Dover ferry terminal a couple of times a week, you would not believe the black smoke coming from the cross channel ferries, while they are in port. I suppose they can get away with it!!

Use a paper clip, cut a piece about 1/2" long , bend one end over, put through holes & bend other end over!! Or a suitable piece of wire.

Your last comment may be the answer to your problem, Try lighting again & leave the door open about an inch. Once its burning well & smokes died down a bit then shut door. The air vents are not big enough to move the large quantity of smoke!

They are used a lot in caravans & motorhomes. I have one in my caravan that is ten years old, had no problems so far!

There are several different sizes of adaptor (like your white bit). Each size is a different colour - yellow, white, black, green,& grey
