  1. No draughts as the warm air comes out of diffusers at floor level and out via return pipes plus the high level ventilators, Miss the cosyness of the solid stove ,espescially with the lights out
  2. Just to add fuel to this fire........I am sitting reading all this tech talk about radiation convection in my new to me lumpy water boat heated by a thermostatically controlled Propex forced air heater set to 16 deg centigrade in my teesheet and pyjama trous but why did I feel cosier in front of my woodburner in the narrowboat that my son lives in now?
  3. I seem to have a feeling that a trust that has somethig to do with regeneration of deprived areas has something to do with the lease of the Swan Lane Wharf basin.Tony ????Gulliford??? also used the paintbooth he went bust a few times and now does boat stretching somewhere in Nuneaton.Sorry but my memory is abit hazy.We had our boat right inside the basin
  4. Swan Lane Wharf it was,my daughter lived on our springer there for two years, good but basic behind locked gates.Try looking up John Twelvetree,he was the manager there and maybe still lives there.
  5. I have a Perkins Midi Mate Cooker, circa 1976.It is a vaporising type of burner, made of Stainless throughout, has 3 hob plates 1 oven and it heats water via a colorifier, that came with a pressure vessel test cert.I have had it running in my workshop,2 rads it runs Toasty.Never seen another one,it came out of a fishing boatIts about 2ft deep 3ft long . I was hoping to use it in my next project, but I dont think I will ever get the time,Iam now 74 yrs old and got more projects than I will ever get round to! The Wife keeps finding me things to do!
  6. Me too,Ive boltcutters on board.Where my boat is,the same applies as it can have boats moored opposite, its a residential sit run by Scottish Canals in Edinburgh.
  7. Petters of Hamble used this to start an 1100 cc BMC petrol engine in a fridge unit called the PCL.This was fitted to 40 foot artic trailers. They then superceded this arrangement by putting a BMC 1.5 diesel and called it aPDL,but using a convential starter motor as the dynastart was heavy on brushes.
  8. I hope that you have tried all the simple thing, these engines are nearly unbreakable, used in lifeboats ,and dumpers on building sites where often the same bucket that had the mixer water was used for rerfilling the dumper, mixer .I kid you not! One little foible that this engine can do is to go on one pot,in fact you can isolat one injector pump by operating the lever below it. Anyway it is possible for one of the Bryce Berger pumps to get a blockage or an injector high pressure pipe may leak or fail 'So the govenor opens up to full fuel setting, but only one cyilinder can respond,so its underpwered and therefor smokes. You can also tell if one pot is doing more work than the other by running it on alternative pumps. If you have a raised hand start handle you can turn it over by hand (decompressed) and listen for the injector sqeak. Best of luck logical simple tests are the way to go as others have said.
  9. Maybe air in the cooling system, carefully check your water level,I asume the temp guage is reading normally
  10. I am about to fit a Morco d16e gas water heater to a bulkhead in the kitchen.I want to continue the tiled area that is already in place, but I am not sure whether I should fit fireproof board behind the proposed tiling. The bulkhead is of 19mm plywood .It will save having to rip the existing tiles off,as otherwise it would have a 10mm difference in the two areas,if I used Masterboard as the fireboard. I just dont want to take a chance as I have no idea how hot it gets behind the waterheater Always one bit of information needed, but this forum always has an answer!
  11. Thanks Forumites, indeed ctrl and + or - did the job,can now read it in one go,yipee.
  12. I am not very good on setting etc on computers,I am using a net book and now the pages are just a little too big.How can I shrink them to fit so as to avoid using the sideways arrows to view the whole width of the page. Great forum thanks daniel
