  1. Tony Brooks, Hi, I made a careful note of your items you listed ie: PRV, Whilst i was at the Boat on Tuesday I thought it better to take Picutures of the areas you suggested the valve might be in fact the Lens saw more than i could get near. I just wondered if I can Post mail through your email which would say a lot more as I hasve quite a few pictures. By the way there was no plastic bag around the prop just some string like material so as i havent tried it out since I can't rule out the reason for the Vibration or lack of speed.
  2. Tony Brooks, I thought I had better answer your questions as there may be a important fact some where on the line,Also i have got one detail wrong that was the Rev's of the engine. I did say 2000 Rev's which was correct but it was not 5000 it was 2500 Rev's the most I dare say was 2759 but only for a few seconds, and even then there was only about .5 MPH increase. Asfar as I know the boat had a complete refurbish in 1986 by a company by the name of JONES of HORNING at that time the only history we have was a NEW Perkins 4108 was fitted and the hours since then has got 2765. As far as I can get with your question about the PRV position will have to wait untilI can get down to the boat on MONDAY. Ofcourse if there is a Plastic bag around he prOP then that should cure the DIFFERENCE ANYWAY< I will let you know on MONday when the yard checks the prop
  3. hello and welcome to our forum . . .

  4. I Thank you for the help regarding the Hydrulics; I can give you the make of the hydrulics and the motor if you think it necessary. This PRV valve how does one get to it, would it be a case of renewing it or adjusting it, I have an enginner who is helping out so I could pass these suggestions on to him or wojuld it be better to approch the makers of the equipment. Thank you so much so far
  5. Hi Everyone, I'm not a novice regarding Boating just at Hydrulic's. Way back in November 2010 I was lucky or unlucky to come across this Hampton 25, it has Hydrulic Steering and drive, on our first trip out we found the steering all over the place, After investigating the steering method we did some bleeding of the system and hey presto we had the most positive steering anyone could wish for that problem one out of the way. Next Hydrulic problem was and is a problem beyond hope almost/ After having set off towards Hickling Broad one bright sunny morning we were doing 2.1 MPH AT 2000 revs, I desided to open the throttle of the Perkins 4180, which I did and found at 3,000 revs I was still doing 2.1 MPH, Then all of a sudden there was a loud rattling coming from the engine area my speed dropped to 1.5 and I turned back towards home as we were on some 2 miles from our home mooring it only took us about an hour to get back. On our return we checked the oil level and it was empty, but the bost bilge had 25 itrs of oil in it we decided at this point to call in someone who could deal with this problem. On investigations he found the Oil Seals in the pump had both been put in the the incorrect way round After putting that right we took it out again nd the samethIng happened except this time it was the seal on The PUMP that was put right and yet a further 25 litres of oil got into the bilge, being oil we could not pump out so we bought 50 Nappys soaked up the oil over a 4 day period and pumpout oil /water into cans and disposed of it. So far no more oil leaks our latest problem is what we had before 2.1 MPH at 2000 or 5000 Revs poor reversing in directions movements, it was suggested we change the prop which we have just had done from a 12"x 10 to a 14"x16, this seem to of made a slight change yesterday starting off I was doing 2000 and 3.4 MPH at 2000 I decided to open up to 5000 and got .5 MPH extra ? on return back to the mooring the boat suddenly started to give heavy vibrasions at either 2000 and 5000, the latest suggestion rom the boat year is I have picked up a Plastic bag on the prop, so we are off now to see if we can find this bag around the propellor. any help will be uesful god only knows we need it.
